As a leading edge IT consulting firm, Avocette Technologies Inc. is growing and has an exciting permanent opportunity for a Senior Database Administrator to join our team in New Westminster. The role requires providing exceptional database infrastructure services working alongside the existing DBA team providing DBA services for both external clients and internal clients. We work with a wide range of clients including government and crown corporations, community services agencies, healthcare providers, and professional services organizations.

Main Responsibilities:

Database administration – job monitoring, data corrections, database creation, optimization, backup/restore, disaster recovery, support for both internal and external clients.

The DBA will be expected to work across multiple clients, supporting internal Avocette databases and teams as well as external clients. Experience in multi-tasking and maintaining development, test and production systems is critical to the success of the DBA.

Required Education:

  • BSC/BA – Comp, SCI, EE, Math or equivalent technical studies

Desirable Certifications:

  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)

Required Skills for Senior DBA:

Applicants will be required to have minimum of 5 years production or developer DBA experience and are expected to have expert level knowledge in the following areas:

  • Experience supporting Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c and MS SQL Server 2008/2012/2014;
  • Strong understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices;
  • Demonstrated expertise with Oracle and MS SQL on different platforms (Solaris, Linux and Windows);
  • Extensive experience of Database installation, configuration and patching;
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle PL/SQL, SQL Server T-SQL;
  • Extensive experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery concepts;
  • Demonstrated in-depth skills with performance tuning complex application and database environments in Oracle and SQL Server;
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and analyzing data within applications and databases;
  • Expertise with Unix and Windows shell scripting;
  • Expertise in operational and incident management/resolution;
  • Experience of day-to-day operations management including communicating effectively and frequently with clients, being responsive and available to client concerns, issues, feedback and questions;
  • Mentoring and coaching skills;
  • Excellent ability to present information (e.g. requirements documents, diagrams) to senior management in a manner that is clear and concise
  • Providing on-call and off-hours support, rotating with other DBAs;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong customer service focus;
  • Creation and maintenance of documentation and standards.

Additional Desirable Skills:

  • OAS administration
  • Experience with OID and LDAP
  • MySQL
  • Oracle and/or SQL Server replication
  • OLTP and data warehouse development
  • Experience providing managed services
  • PMP/CAPM Training or Certification
  • ITIL certification
