This position is open-ended, meaning the project location will vary geographically depending on the company's Work On Hand.
A rotation schedule will be provided based on the needs of the project.
The Superintendent has frequent contact with clients, client representatives, union representatives, and professional and technical support personnel.
Responsible for Supervising “self-perform” concrete and steel crews and ensuring implementation of all requirements for Health & Safety are established for the project
Adherence to OHSA, company safety standards & practices while ensuring full trade and subcontractor site safety compliance.
Analyze and understand project schedule prepared by Project Manager (PM). Provide input of feasibility and constructability to PM.
Consult with PM with project pre-planning when possible.
Assist Project Coordinator (PC) in preparing 3 week look ahead schedules. At this time all required equipment, labour, and material required for the upcoming activities should be outlined.
Remain in constant contact with Project Coordinator & Project Manager to ensure the work remains on track.
Relay to the PM any ongoing delays or potential future delays as soon as possible and assist in developing potential mitigation measures.
Communicate regular schedule updates and impacts to the client as well as subcontractors.
Hires and manages hourly employees as required to complete the project in consultation with the Project Manager.
Maintains, approves and submits hourly time sheets with all necessary details for job costing purposes.
Understanding of construction documents and the ability to clearly define expectations to crew and provide incentive to perform.
Strong understanding of all the construction trades with specific expertise in structural steel.
Capacity to understand and relay the needs of the client to project team.
Keen proficiency in maintaining safe work site, the layout & constructing of formwork systems, the coordination & direct supervision of manpower & sub-contractors to provide a high quality of construction.
Willingness to travel to any location in Canada
8+ years of progressive experience supervising Bridge projects for both rehab and new construction.
Experience with CP/CN railways
Previous experience as a General Foreman/Site Superintendent
Knowledge of Provincial contracts and standards
Must possess all skills of a lower rated position including Foreman and Journeyman/Carpenter
Gold Seal Certification considered an asset
Working knowledge with Provincial laws, specifications an asset
Valid drivers license (drivers abstract to be provided)
