Position Summary:
BGI Americas at Montreal Canada seeks individuals with demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and working environment. A full-time laboratory scientist position is available in BGI Americas Sequencing Center at Montreal Canada.

Major Responsibilities:
Will be involved in various laboratory procedures including analysis of clinical and research samples by molecular biology methods with a focus on assays including, but not limited to, DNA sequencing, real-time PCR and next generation DNA and RNA sequencing (NGS) data analysis, assay result interpretation, and proper maintenance and management of laboratory records.

Participate in quality control/quality assurance activities, as well as general lab duties such as reagent lot validation and inventory management. The laboratory operates in compliance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) standards and inspected by the CAP (College of American Pathologists). As such, the candidate should have knowledge of the requirements for working in a clinical laboratory environment, and any previous experience in a clinical laboratory, ISO certified laboratory or laboratory carrying other certifications is preferred.

Participate in new assay development and validation. Perform troubleshooting during daily experiments. Report timely to group leader in case of abnormal situation. Actively and accurately deal with emergencies during experiments

Perform QC steps to ensure the functionality of laboratory equipment.

Support the commercial team to evaluate project requirements and assist laboratory development in North America.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. degree in Life Science major with a minimum of three years of molecular biology laboratory experience, and a good theoretical understanding of the molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: nucleic acid isolation and PCR techniques.

Or Master in Life Sciences with a minimum of three years of molecular biology laboratory experience, and a good theoretical understanding of the molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: nucleic acid isolation and PCR techniques.

Or Bachelor’s degree in Life Science major with minimum of 7 years of molecular biology laboratory experience experiences and a good theoretical understanding of the molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: nucleic acid isolation and PCR techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:
Reliable, punctual, and motivated in his or her work. Attention to detail, diligence in data recording/documentation, strict adherence to established assay protocols and laboratory policies/procedures, strong organizational skills and work well within a team.

Training in biochemistry, molecular biology, and / or genetics with a theoretical understanding and experience in interpretation of molecular assay results.

Experienced in meeting CLIA and CAP standards / requirements. Applicants with previous experience in a CLIA certified setting are strongly preferred.

Work experience in a Next Generation Sequencing lab or related field strongly preferred.

Expertise in molecular biology experiments, such as DNA Extraction, Electrophoresis, PCR, DNA Fragmentation and qPCR.

Fluency in, both written and spoken Mandarin Chinese, is a plus.
