Overview

THIS IS A CONTRACT (PART-TIME) POSITION.Reporting to the Manager, Health and Wellness Clinics the incumbent works within an interdisciplinary team and serves patients primarily in the area of outpatient rehabilitation alongside the students within the program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities

Clinical Services which includes:
Conducting speech-language screenings under the supervision of the clinic Speech-Language Pathologist with CDA students
Conducting individual speech-language therapy sessions with CDA Students under the supervision of the clinic Speech-Language Pathologist
Conducting hearing assessments under the supervision of the clinic Audiologist
Participating as a member of the clinic multidisciplinary teams / committees to promote quality service
Monitoring / observing client’s response to treatment and keeps the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist informed
Identifying needs, and requests with the Speech-Language Pathologist to reassess the client and / or modify the treatment plan as appropriate
Providing training and education to clients, families, and caregivers, regarding use of communication strategies
Collaborating with clients, families, and / or other caregivers to provide patient-centered care
Providing basic cleaning services on client’s communication devices
Constructing visual communication aids and instructs client in the use of the aid
Providing orientation to clinic protocols and procedures to students within the CDA program and monitors these while in clinic with students
Providing support and guidance to students within the program and ensures that students are able to apply learning from the classroom in the clinical environment
Assisting students in developing their skills in providing treatment to clients in the clinic

Administrative Support which includes:
Organizing and maintains the clinic testing equipment and materials, filing cabinets and equipment supplies
Photocopying and makes therapy materials as required or requested for individual clients
Preparing documents on interventions provided, responses to treatment and client participation, using approved format
Maintaining and recording client attendance
Preparing therapy material for both individual and group therapy sessions
Maintaining accurate documentation in the client health record
Preparing written / oral summary reports
Promoting the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment using clinic’s infection control procedures
Performing clerical duties to assist with service operations and ensures availability of supplies and equipment
Maintaining tidiness and safety of the department and equipment

Requirements

Successfully completed a graduate certificate in Communicative Disorders Assistant
Profession designation as a CDAAC member
Eligible for membership in SAC or OSLA
Proven familiarity with the Speech-Language & Audiology Canada Guidelines for Supportive Personnel and Scope of Practice
2 years’ experience working with clients from a variety of ages and communication disorders
Experience with Speech-Language Pathology services with hands on experience working in a clinic setting (an asset)
Demonstrated knowledge of privacy legislation as it pertains to healthcare settings
Working knowledge of goals applications as they relate to articulation, aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, etc.
Experience maintaining and replenishing therapy materials
Current knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines in the healthcare setting
Experience working with students or in a mentorship role
Proven ability to meet the documentation standards of the profession
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
Computer literacy skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated time management skills
Ability to function effectively within an interdisciplinary team and independently as needed
Ability to integrate information into practice and think critically
Ability to work collaboratively with students and provide guidance and support to achieve client goals
Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records system is an asset
Ability to work a flexible work schedule to support programming
