Position Summary:
To help support our continued growth, we are looking for a detail-oriented, goal-driven, high-energy Database Administrator to expand our Technology team. This role will report to the Lead DevOps Engineer. Our Technology team goes above and beyond to ensure our software systems are robust and highly maintainable. We are a 24/7 operation that requires on-call coverage to serve any technical incidents that may arise. This is a full-time position located in our Vancouver HQ.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Actively maintain the health and performance of our MySQL database systems
Optimize SQL queries
Build and maintain ETL processes
Design and tune alerting for our production environment
Advise the technology team on optimal use of our data repositories
Understand database security models and best practices, and ensure these are implemented and monitored to secure our data
Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after hours support
Work with management on planned changes, incidents and service improvement plans
Secure sensitive data according to our ISO standards and security policies
Manage database and systems backups and migrations
Troubleshoot and resolve any database issues quickly and efficiently

Key/Technical Skills:
Hands-on experience working with and supporting relational database systems such as MySql or SQL Server
Familiarity with cloud hosted data storage such as AWS or Azure
Strong experience working with MySQL Workbench or other UI tools to manage and tune databases
Knowledge of Linux server management.
Knowledge of database replication, backup and restore
Experience with ETL technologies and procedures
Experience deploying and installing database software upgrades, patches and fixes
Experience installing and setting up databases
Good knowledge of database systems architecture, schemas, authentication, permissions and buffers / cache
Good understanding and experience working with high availability, high performance, multi-data center systems and hybrid cloud environments
Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships with both technical and business staff
Familiarity with NoSQL implementations such as DynamoDB

Education and Experience:
3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Database Developer
Appropriate education such as a BSc or Diploma
