Role
You'll work closely and collaboratively on one of our development teams consisting of developers, designers and users researchers to build new features and products. You will be shipping code to hundreds of schools every day.

Our product feedback loop is immediate which means we can rapidly iterate and deploy. If you enjoy building full stack applications from the ground up, leveraging the newest technologies to delight users, and executing like an entrepreneur, then you’ve found the right place.

Core Responsibilities
Feature Delivery
Nurturing the creation of new products and features, and the evolution of existing functionality by participating in the early stages of conceptualization, validation, and scoping. Taking ownership of the technical implementation, testing, and quality assurance plan to deliver new products and features to production. Openly and honestly identifying roadblocks, false assumptions, and diversions which may affect the timeliness of launch expectations.

Code Reviewing
Providing clear, concise, constructive, and actionable peer feedback to support the timely launch of high quality functionality. Focusing on major implementation issues rather than minor quality of life problems. Working collaboratively to quickly resolve issues and reduce roadblocks.

Collaborative Development
Working directly with other developers and designers to share ideas, review hypotheses, and support solving challenging problems via activities like group brainstorming, whiteboarding, pair programming, and code review in an open and respectful manner. Prioritizing team success over individual needs and agendas.

Issue Investigations and Resolutions
Pursuing a deep understanding of the product stack in order to be able to quickly and correctly narrow the scope of issues to measure the impact in terms of client experience, identify urgency, evaluate possible workarounds and resolutions, and recommend appropriate follow-up actions. Differentiate between issue symptoms and root causes.

Technical Leadership
Enable the team to achieve success beyond their individual capabilities by providing technical expertise from experience, mentoring teammates, facilitating the solving of challenging problems, resolving technical disputes, and making difficult decisions. Following and proactively responding to technology and industry changes which impact our business.

Critical Issues Analysis
Reviewing serious product issues with involved stakeholders to identify technical and process root causes, impacted users. Making product and technical recommendations to prevent similar issues from occurring again. Proactively identifying and championing improvements to our development models.

After-Hours Support
Regularly, about once every four weeks, taking short-term “On-Call” shifts during which you are available at all hours to respond, triage, and escalate urgent product or infrastructure issues identified by our monitoring services, clients, or teammates. We work hard to keep our platform stable however emergencies do happen.

An Ideal Candidate
7+ years of web software development across a breadth of modern technologies and methodologies

Extensive experience with Python and Django

Some experience with VueJS

Technologies we use and teach
Backend: Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Celery

Frontend: JavaScript, RequireJS, FlightJS, VueJS, Webpack

Infrastructure: Terraform, AWS (EC2, Lambda, Aurora MySQL, SQS, etc...)
