Reporting to the Superintendent, the Truck Shop Coordinator\Planner is responsible for the safe, efficient and economical operation of the Branch’s Truck Shop facilities. The position is required to assist the Superintendent and Supervisors. Assist in development and implementation of repair process that will net a significant improvement in efficiencies and gross profit margins. Responsibilities assigned to this individual will allow the Superintendent to spend required time to further develop all shop supervisors to more efficiently manage daily repairs and develop the supervisors regarding the, warranty process along with effective management of each job to ensure budget and completion dates are met. Superintendent current work loaded is excessive and does not allow the time required to develop, implement and grow the current business by means of making customer calls and generating additional repair facility revenues.
Plan and map shop repair schedules and report daily on progress of repairs.
Provide detailed parts list and labour hours required for repairs in order to provide the customer with flat rate quotes and completion dates to meet compliance.
Work with supervisors and parts department to ensure all parts are available and delivered to the applicable shop bay the repair will begin in.
Develop repair planning chart for all repairs and tasks required
Daily monitor and report status of repairs regarding schedule and budget compliance.
Act as prime contact for personnel on certain new truck build projects as the source for information, planning and schedule of builds.
Assist in development of process’s IE: warranty claims, core return records, RAMP compliance, SWP, SOP, review and perform factory campaign as required for each customer unit, job repair packages to include list of tools required safety precautions, develop outside supplier package completeness check sheets.
Act as coverage for Superintendent, when away from the office on business or vacation.
Update spread sheet daily to communicate progress as required on repairs in progress to ensure machine compliance is met and cause of any repair delays IE: waiting for parts etc.
A direct result of this position will be notable department efficiencies improvements, greater gross profit margins on jobs, meeting or exceeding customer expectations, reduced unit down time for repairs due to improved organization and leadership, development and implementation of new department repair and safety process’s and practices. Ability to grow the business due to required time allotments now being available for the general foreman to develop business growth action plans and execute them with customers that currently do not utilize the SMS truck shop for any repairs or overhauls.
Communications are primarily for the purpose of guiding and directing Truck Shift Supervisors and their subordinate tradespeople, apprentices and labourers.
Position also has external and internal customer communications for the purpose of determining scope of repair work, job schedules and job planning.
Customers – provides service information; asks questions and clarifies customer’s concerns.
Position requires a thorough knowledge of maintenance and repairs of haul trucks.
Requires Trade certification with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
Must be results driven, excellent internal and external customer communication skills and have the ability to plan the repair, gather all associated costs relevant to the repair IE: parts costs, sub-contractor costs.
Ability to oversee and coordinate large shop operations projects IE; aux inverter, mid life truck rebuilds. New truck builds
Understand warranty process and ensure SMS financial exposure is minimized by proper documentation and working within the guidelines required by warranty department.
Also requires an individual that will assist the Superintendent, in identifying, development and implementing both the safety and production improvement process.
Strong leadership skills are required and posses the ability to assume the Superintendent, position when required IE: Foreman on vacation or on business.
Position is Monday to Friday (5x2), and required to be available 24 hour/7 days/week for customer service.
