Position Summary:

The Annis Residence Team Lead is a member of a leadership team that operates out of the Chilliwack Health and Housing Centre. The primary role is to provide leadership and supervision to the staff, develop and implement creative programming, perform administrative functions related to the program, and engage in one to one support for the tenants. As needed, the Team Leader will run groups, participate in recreation activities, and provide outreach support. The Team Leader will provide support and advocacy to support participants to stabilize in their current housing. This position requires an understanding of poverty, housing and mental health. This position also requires expertise in community outreach, marketing, attending community meetings, working with funders and experience in life skills training. A strong ability to use initiative and to function independently is also required. Hours must be flexible to accommodate participant schedules.

Primary Duties:

  • Coordinates program within the catchment and provide day to day support to the team
  • Perform program administrative tasks as delegated by the Manager including performance appraisals, timesheets, checking in and out, running team meetings, stats.
  • Screen, process and accept referrals, complete intake and orientation processes as per policy, complete basic assessments and develop service goals in collaboration with the participant and referring worker.
  • Offer both insight and practical goal-focused counselling strategies while maintaining a safe and respectful environment for participants.
  • Collect and maintain records of participant statistical information required by agency and funders for reporting purposes, within prescribed formats.
  • Conduct other clinical administrative tasks such as written updates and discharge reports according to policy.
  • When required, develop, implement and facilitate group sessions that are relevant to local needs; sessions could include co-leadership with other staff, volunteers or peer counsellors or other community professionals.
  • Act as a positive role model and assist participants in developing values of honesty, self-assertiveness, and respect for others, a democratic viewpoint, and a lack of dependency on drugs, alcohol, and self-abusive and destructive behaviour.
  • Maintain health and safety of self, participants and community; manage inappropriate behaviour and emergency situations according to agency policy and practice.
  • Maintains good safety practices and a preventative approach

Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social work or other fields plus one years’ experience, or Bachelor’s degree in Child and Youth Care or relevant discipline plus one year’s direct experience. Substance use/Addiction counselling training. A combination of experience and education is considered.
  • Three years of leadership experience.
  • Experience supporting the vulnerable adult population with housing, accessing services within a biopsychosocial –spiritual framework.
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities (including FASD, ADHD), barriers to support, addictions theory, motivational theory, the effects of abuse and trauma, and Indigenous culture.
  • Sound judgement, Clear communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Trauma-informed practice and suicide intervention training.

Basic Requirement

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate and Mental Health First Aid
  • Class 5 Driver’s License; use of own vehicle; driver’s abstract

Salary Range: $26.20/hour - $29.87/hour, plus benefit package (100% employer paid)
