Pacific Western Transportation is currently seeking an experienced Health and Safety Coordinator to join our growing team. Reporting to the Director of Safety, this newly created role will provide support for both our Transit and Motor Coach lines of business.

The ideal candidate is passionate, detail-oriented and will thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Start date for this position is January 2020. Minimal travel within Canada is required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with administrative functions in policy, procedure and management system compliance with required continuous improvement plans for Transit and Motor Coach lines of business
  • Ensure COR, NSC and WCB documentation upkeep internally through reviews with location managers (electronically)
  • Maintain training tracking systems as required
  • Use KPI and CPI data to assist with trending and analyzing safety data to create leading indicator results vs lagging indicator reactions
  • Assist in KPI budget planning
  • Assist in creating and maintaining accountability with COR / NSC summary reviews, audit action plans and execution with location management teams
  • Ensure investigation and inspection programs are complete
  • Participate in KPI monthly reviews and initiatives for incident reduction
  • Research safety topics and/or training opportunities as needed with CCoE, CIE or external agencies

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years in a health and safety administration role
  • Thorough knowledge of OHS, NSC, WCB/WSIB regulations in multiple jurisdictions (British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario)
  • Transportation industry knowledge and experience
  • WCB/WSIB Claims Management experience and understanding of the appeals process
  • Knowledge and experience with both Certificate of Recognition (COR) and National Safety Code (NSC)
  • Experience in a union environment considered an asset
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to multi task and problem solve in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to use initiative
  • Strong attention to detail
