The Ministry of Central Services is currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual, who is a flexible team player for the position of Groundskeeper. Reporting to the Supervisor, this position will be involved in the maintenance program.

As a Groundskeeper, you will perform general maintenance activities on buildings and grounds, and operate light equipment such as light trucks, push mower, weed trimmer, rototiller, hand tools and other equipment as directed. You will also perform janitorial and sanitation functions, pick up and disposal of garbage and debris.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of basic cleaning methods (materials, equipment and methods commonly used in housekeeping/janitorial and sanitation activities); and safe equipment and building operation, maintenance and minor repair.

The successful candidate will have experience and ability to perform building and/or park maintenance, using common hand tools and light equipment. You will have the ability to work independently and/or as a contributing member of a park team to complete work assignments and contribute towards a positive working environment. You will also have the ability to respond accurately, clearly and courteously to inquiries from the general public, and be able to physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, or moving supplies and equipment such as picnic tables and cleaning supplies.

As stated above this position involves frequent lifting, carrying, and moving supplies and equipment. You must comply with risk management standards, OH&S, Public Health Regulations, and WHMIS. The successful candidate must also possess a current valid Driver’s License, and must be available to work on weekends.

Please note: Groundskeeper positions are to perform work from mid-April to mid-October annually. Hired candidates are recalled for work every spring and laid off every fall.
