The Davey Resource Group has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Consulting Arborist / Forester, responsible for a comprehensive range of arboricultural and urban forestry consulting projects in the Greater Toronto Area. The Consulting Arborist will work directly alongside an established Eastern Canadian urban forestry consulting team and within our expanding team of leading professionals that will provide guidance and coaching to accelerate your career in urban forestry and arboriculture.

Job Description and Responsibilities

The Consulting Arborist / Forester will conduct various urban forestry and arboricultural consulting projects in municipalities within the metro Vancouver area to clients in numerous markets. Key consulting responsibilities will include providing objective and independent arboricultural expert assessment and recommendations using technical knowledge, industry experience and standard best practices with effective communication to clients and authorities through verbal/written consultation, plan development and report writing. The Consultant will hold a high degree of responsibility for completing individual consulting projects end-to-end with scope of work including but not limited to advanced tree risk assessments, arborist reports, tree preservation plans, ecological assessment and preservation, urban forest management plans, construction related urban forestry consulting, landscape/tree appraisals and all other advanced urban forestry consulting projects tailored to our client’s requirements.

Qualifications

  • Formal education in urban forestry, forestry, forest conservation, arboriculture, ecology, horticulture, environmental science, environmental management biology or related field. University degree preferred or a combination of College diploma in conjunction with arboricultural work experience.
  • 3-5 year’s working experience in the arboriculture or urban forestry industry preferred.
  • ISA Certification is mandatory and the candidate must possess or obtain Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) prior to the start date.
  • Working knowledge of various urban forestry aspects including consulting arboriculture, arborist reports, tree inventory, tree preservation, urban forest management plans and strategy, vegetation identification, integrated pest management, tree maintenance, pesticide applications, utility clearing and vegetation management, bylaws etc.
  • Further qualifications such as ISA Municipal Specialist, ISA Utility Specialist, ISA Board Certified Master Arborist, Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or American Society of Consulting Arborists (ASCA), Wildlife Danger Tree Assessor considered strong assets.
  • Understanding of local tree protection by-laws and permit processing is required.
  • Strong understanding of various hardware, software and equipment including but not limited to Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), various digital devices such as tablets, computers, GPS etc. Working knowledge of ArcGIS, Esri, AutoCAD considered a strong asset.
  • Ideal candidate will possess a high degree of organization, interpersonal skills, results oriented and determined to increase customer experiences and developing growing client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently, with little supervision, outside, in all weather conditions and terrain.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to travel throughout Canada if and when required.
