The Opportunity:
We’re looking for a Director, ESG Services to join NEI Investments – the asset management division of Aviso Wealth.

Reporting to the Vice President, ESG Services, the Director will take a leading role in guiding the strategic direction of NEI’s Responsible Investment (RI) program and ensuring its ongoing leadership and success. The successful candidate will be specifically be responsible for helping guide the continued evolution of our Corporate Engagement, Evaluations, Proxy Voting, Policy and Research programs. These responsibilities will encompass leading high-profile corporate engagements with companies from all over the world, publishing key research and opinion pieces, and driving policy and standards development on topics ranging from the systemic risks of climate change to ensuring the respect and protection of human rights. This role also requires the successful candidate to be a key public face of our RI program, representing NEI in various national and international collaborations and conferences, speaking with media, and supporting our sales team with insights and advisor- and public-facing speaking opportunities. This position will be located in Toronto.

What your day looks like:
Establish, review and refine procedures for corporate engagement dialogue, proxy voting and policy work to increase effectiveness and efficiency, support NEI's claim of continuing industry leadership in responsible investing and mitigate regulatory compliance risks
Support the Responsible Investment program lead in guiding the overall development and growth of the program
Supervise and advise ESG sector analysts on company dialogues
Conduct key dialogues with senior executives and board directors regarding ESG risks and solutions
Supervise proxy voting operations and relationship with third party proxy advisor
Provide recommendations on policy work opportunities
Research and write policy submissions and review submissions written by others
Conduct meetings with policymakers
Present to wide range of audiences at industry conferences, sales events, etc.
Develop, supervise and write engagement reporting content
Represent NEI in key ESG industry collaborations and multi-stakeholder initiatives
Act as a media spokesperson
Monitor current and emerging ESG risks in assigned sectors and determine appropriate action, including identifying company targets for engagement
Develop key engagement strategies for assigned sectors in collaboration with the team
Conduct, as well as organize and support, dialogues with senior executives and board directors at public companies regarding ESG risks and solutions
Build upon your expertise by undertaking a wide range of thematic, sectoral and company-specific research relating to a variety of ESG risks and solutions; e.g., human rights, community engagement, executive compensation, climate change, etc.
Play a prominent role representing NEI in ESG coalitions, collaborations and other strategic partnerships
Draft internal and external briefings, minutes, blogs, reports, company correspondence, policy submissions, whitepapers and other written materials
Support sales and marketing teams in communications about our RI program
Provide sector insights and expertise that strengthen our company evaluation and proxy voting processes

Requirements

Your experience and skills:
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study
Minimum five years’ experience in a research function in business, government, academic or nongovernmental organizations
Minimum seven years’ experience in responsible investing, corporate sustainability or a related field
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Excellent research and writing skills
Excellent presenter capable of comfortably and effectively speaking to a range of audiences across the RI and financial advice fields
Corporate engagement and policy advocacy experience strongly preferred
Experience at an asset manager and familiarity with the wealth management business and the needs of investment advisors an asset
Experience with proxy voting or corporate governance best practices an asset
Fluency in English is required, proficiency in other languages is considered an asset
Sector-specific experience (e.g. consumer sector, industrials, etc.) considered an asset
