Job Description:

ABC Recycling Ltd. (ABC) is looking for a Logistics Manager, based out of our Burnaby, BC location. This is a senior level logistics management role overseeing the movement of scrap metal from the source/supplier of scrap, to one of nine ABC locations and eventually to customers worldwide. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing a logistics operation using multiple sources of transport, especially with rail and trucking services.


  • Manage and mentor Logistics department staff
  • Collaborate with and influence yard operations and scrap procurement divisions of the company to improve processes and to ensure compliance with transport related regulations
  • Analyze logistics practices and vendor costs to ensure full visibility by ABC management
  • Monitor invoicing to ensure logistics vendors are complying with stated costs and terms
  • Negotiate services and costs of logistics services with providers and review vendor service performance periodically
  • Deliver training programs and information to operating divisions, increasing their transportation knowledge
  • Establish and implement policies and standards for the transportation and storage of goods that meet or exceed government regulations
  • Plan and manage budgets
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

  • 5 + years’ experience managing various logistics related segments of company, specifically rail and trucking
  • Degree or diploma in Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain, or equivalent work experience
  • Thorough knowledge of road transport regulations in BC, Alberta and Washington State
  • Extensive experience using railroad companies to deliver goods and working with rail service providers in Canada and United States to repair rail equipment
  • Experience in the transport of scrap metal or heavy industrial goods is an asset
  • Experience managing a diverse team with varying skills and training levels
  • Experienced in implementing continuous improvement and quality assessment programs
  • Adept at using MS Office suite and subject matter specific software programs
  • Previous experience in creating and interpreting metrics and dashboards
  • Ability to develop and build relationships both internally and externally to the organization
