The long story:

Reporting to the Restaurant Manager, the Assistant Manager for our Food & Beverage operations will ensure that restaurant & banquet team members have the tools and resources they need to successfully complete their tasks. From working with the culinary team on creating delicious banquet offerings to delivering excellent event service, the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager can make positive impacts in multiple areas of the operation.

Some specific responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with all members of the resort operations to ensure delivery of exceptional resort experiences
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, including owners, employees and guests
  • Actively leading the restaurant team through organizing and conducting daily pre and post-shift meetings as well as assisting with leadership team and department wide meetings as needed
  • Contributing to positive workplace culture by participating in the employee life cycle including recruitment, scheduling, on-boarding, potential disciplinary actions, completing payroll entries, training, supervising and mentoring of all engaged restaurant team members including supervisors, host persons, food runners, bartenders and servers
  • Providing daily support and guidance through regularly managing the restaurant floor and/or banquet space
  • Ensuring the training plan is modified to meet changing customer, staff and industry needs as well as to meet high-quality presentations and levels of service
  • Supporting the administration and execution of banquet events including communicating with group coordinators, preparing contracts, creating banquet event orders, setting up the banquet space, delivering event service and processing billing
  • Representing the Beach Club Resort onsite, and at external events such as trade and consumer shows, to communicate & promote the Food & Beverage operations and capacity for group business
  • Working with the corporate sales team to assist in the solicitation, negotiation and conversion of new and existing clients through direct sales activities including cold calls and lead generation
  • Promoting safety awareness and ensure associates are trained in safe work procedures, know how to report any unsafe conditions, practices or injuries/follow reporting protocols and take action to respond accordingly
  • Ensuring compliance with WorkSafe BC and the property management Occupational Health and Safety Program
  • Assisting in the development, implementation and maintenance of quality standards for the overall Food & Beverage operation
  • Managing cost controls such as breakage and loss as well as developing, recommending and launching events and ideas to reduce costs and/or increase revenue potential
  • Inspecting and overseeing the cleanliness and maintenance of the restaurant, communicating deficiencies to the appropriate parties as required
  • Assisting with the creation, provision and communication of the monthly forecast, revenue and commentary reports to ensure adherence to budget, cost control and profitability of the Food & Beverage operations
  • Evaluating cost effectiveness for all aspects of the operations including conducting regular reviews of pricing versus cost to ensure profit margins are acceptable and maximized
  • Maintaining inventory levels to ensure that the team has the tools they need to complete their tasks. This includes conducting regular inventory counts as well as ordering, receiving and processing stock
  • Liaising between team members and other departments; actively recording and communicating concerns to the relevant leader
  • Anticipating challenges and opportunities then developing, communicating and implementing solutions
  • Conducting other relevant duties and helping support the fabulous team at The Beach Club Resort!

The “must haves”:

  • A valid Serving it Right Certificate for the Province of British Columbia
  • 3 years+ of supervisory experience in the hospitality industry with a focus in Food & Beverage operations, service techniques, banquet & event management standards and cost controls
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • A positive, open leadership attitude with an aptitude for relationship management
  • Desire for work/life balance through working and creating flexible team schedules; working a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Personal motivation to manage time and tasks so the right things get done at the right time and positive attitudes are maintained while under pressure
  • Physical ability to regularly and continually lift up to 20lbs, occasionally lift up to 50lbs, as well as stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours
  • Working knowledge of computers, including using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Point of Sale systems and the Internet to complete administrative tasks

The “nice to haves”:

  • A post-secondary diploma or certificate in Hotel/Restaurant Management
