Department Overview

The main responsibility of Business Services – Operations is to provide a high level of service, support and professionalism to their internal clients, and if applicable, external clients. Ability to work within strict deadlines, strong problem solving skills, initiative, attention to detail and the ability to make a strong contribution to the team are keys to success. Experience in an investment environment and understanding of basic accounting principles.

Job Description

The Manager is responsible for a functional group within Business Services and acts as the reference contact and Subject Matter Expert for the business and their team. The Manager works in a high volume, fast paced environment that is subject to change due to the nature of our business processes. The manager is responsible for ensuring the team is motivated and empowered to perform their job, via training, coaching, performance feedback and mentoring.

People Manager with 9 direct reports including Operation Analyst/Specialist, Portfolio Administrators and Business Service Officer. This position reports to VP&D, Business Services
Accountable for all aspects of people management including: regular focused training, coaching , performance appraisals, personal development and performance management, and mentoring to enable team to meet challenges and team objectives. Performance management practices are implemented and followed to achieve results and professional/personal development objectives
Responsible for leading team to achieve/maintain service level commitments: focus on quality and professionalism
Maintain team competence by ensuring team skills or knowledge gaps are met with appropriate training and development
Direct the overall management of assigned processes and functions, develop and operationalize processes to ensure all activities are integrated and aligned to overall business objective and client requirements
Manage team resources for optimal efficiency, productivity and servicing
Direct, train and develop staff to enable team to meet challenges thereby improving responses to changing business priorities
Provide leadership, direction, advice and guidance to the team, maintaining high levels of integrity, motivation and morale
Share knowledge, information, skills and subject matter expertise among the team.
Communicate timely, issues and incidents and encourage good working relationships with other teams
Contribute to the development of the business. Implement solutions and provide operational support.
Act as a change leader/champion for Business Services through positive reinforcement of milestones and successes
Work in partnership and act as liaison with various TDAM and TDBG departments to ensure strong support and delivery to TDAM overall. Eg. manage relationships
Develop solutions – ensure business requirements, processes and procedures guides are properly documented. Ensuring appropriate controls and process are in place, developed and maintained
Continual operational improvements – efficient delivery to business, opportunities for process improvement, automation and centralization
Manage and participate in projects that impact the team. Provide expertise and coordinate implementation and testing of new processes, technologies or operating models in own area
Manage error rate and other risks inherent to the team via prompt and thorough investigation and resolution of root causes and recommend improvements.
Monitor and report on service delivery to ensure deliverables are achieved
Ensure employees are aware of the impact of their work on the activities of others outside of their functions
Act as a reference for your area for the larger business (Subject Matter Expert)
Continuously develop knowledge in own area. Transfer knowledge and provide guidance to the team.
Encourage productivity, innovation, creativity and teamwork.
Lead and follow up on actions plans to improve employee experience
Demonstrate leadership profile
Act as escalation point for team as well as other internal groups and partners
Proactively identify key business opportunities, research and recommend system enhancements/modifications. Develop strategies to achieve recommendation

Job Requirements
