Full time opportunity for a Material Planner in Guelph, ON

A Material Planner is an essential part of the manufacturing team and monitors the flow of materials necessary for all manufacturing operations. This individual must ensure that the company never runs out of necessary manufacturing materials, while at the same time, due to to limited storage space for raw materials, ensures there’s adequate supply without over ordering or wasting resources.

The candidate will be required to work both as part of a team and independently in a variety of settings. You will be required to work regular business hours, but may also be required to come in on evenings or weekends when the customer is running or if there are critical supply issues to be monitored.

Key Responsibilities:
Perform forecasting and data analysis on existing and incoming inventory, and predict/prevent stock-outs
Understand and manage risk to minimize impact on production schedule
Manage supplier performance to maintain planned inventory levels and meet customer expectations for unplanned demands (including rush orders, orders for slow moving parts, and other special circumstances)
Implement all processes to agreed standards and targets and support continuous improvement initiatives and identify areas for improvement
Utilize any material requirements planning system (MRP) that is in place and ensure that the data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required
Monitor the integrity of Bills of Material (BOM) and manage inventory accuracy
Monitor inventory levels against agreed upon target levels
Support inventory checks to validate inventory accuracy
Minimize obsolete stock and ensure business is left with minimal liability
Manages all inventory/distribution activities (Receiving, stock transfers, cycle counts, inventory balancing)
Ensure that all paperwork is processed accurately and completely in a timely manner

Qualifications and Experience

Undergraduate degree and/or college diploma in business operations / materials ad operations management
Previous experience of materials planning ideally in the automotive or manufacturing environment is preferred
Good understanding of supply chain processes and their inter dependencies
Understanding of supplier relationships and some experience working with suppliers is preferred
Knowledge of lean techniques may be advantageous
