OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Decision Support portfolio at UHN provides data and analytics support to all sites and services across UHN, as well as to selected Provincial/Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) initiatives. Our team is composed of highly qualified and experienced data science and analytics professionals from a range of analytics backgrounds, who use a variety of methods - from simple analysis, to advanced statistical modeling, simulation, and prediction modeling - to support our clients.
We are seeking a passionate, creative and innovative individual who will excel at providing data and analytical support for UHN’s clinicians, researchers, and corporate business areas.
WHO YOU ARE
You are seeking an exciting opportunity to showcase your talents as a data science and business analyst. You possess a strong work ethic and a passion for advancing healthcare through developing and reporting clinical, quality and operational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); interpreting, visualizing, and presenting findings; developing and maintaining cross-sector scorecards and dashboards; and performing data quality investigations.
As an ideal candidate, you are comfortable working with large-scale clinical and administrative datasets, you understand how a hospital and/or information management environment functions, and you are curious about the future of data science and analytics in healthcare.
Reporting to the Manager, Decision Support, and working directly with other members of the Decision Support team and/or individuals at various levels within the organization, you will:
Analyze, interpret, and present data, and create and maintain technical documentation;
Support clinical and non-clinical areas in the development of KPIs, dashboards, data visualizations, and reports (routine and ad hoc) for the purposes of monitoring and optimizing organization performance on quality, safety, operations, and planning;
Provide analytical support and expertise to facilitate effective and efficient benchmarking and prediction analysis at corporate and clinical program-levels;
Support reporting to various external reporting agencies including Cancer Care Ontario, the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care, and the Toronto Central – LHIN;
Conduct data quality investigations and engage in continuous data quality improvements;
Commit to, and actively work to remain knowledgeable and up-to-date in the assigned field; and
Challenge the status quo and recommend innovative ways to improve reporting process efficiency and quality.
An Undergraduate degree in Medical Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Epidemiology, or Business;
One (1) or more years of experience in a data/analytics environment with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
Strong data visualization and presentation skills;
Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI);
Strong knowledge of, and experience in database querying (e.g. SQL) and programming (e.g. Python and/or R);
Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (e.g. SAS and SPSS);
Proficient use of the MS Office suite (specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);
A willingness to tackle complex challenges as well as routine maintenance and administrative tasks;
Being self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as being a contributing team member when needed;
Excellent inter-personal and client relationship management skills;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
The ability to multi-task within a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities; and
Adhering to confidentiality and privacy requirements for sensitive financial and clinical information.
Considered an asset:
A Master’s degree in Medical Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Epidemiology, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
Experience working in a complex, public sector organization or healthcare institution; and
Experience with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (DAD, NACRS, NRS, CCRS) or other large healthcare datasets (e.g. Wait Times).
MEETINGS AND TRAVEL
Our office is located in the Downtown Toronto area (Yonge/Dundas); some travel through the GTA may be required, depending on work assignments.
