The Communications department is hiring a permanent, full-time Multimedia Specialist. We are SAIT’s storytellers. If you’re eager to share SAIT’s narrative and news through your visual talents and expertise, we want to meet you.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Creative Services, you will coordinate and champion multimedia projects including video, photography, dynamic presentations, animation and sound, within the institutional Communications department. You’re an energetic and creative visual storyteller with experience in developing multimedia assets that elicit emotion, elevate a brand and build reputation. With a deep understanding of how different digital channels present unique opportunities and challenges, you will work with writers, social media specialists and event planners to create great content for internal and external audiences.
You are a trend-seeker and, more importantly, a trend-setter. Your projects are cutting edge and innovative. You are comfortable producing multimedia projects for the web or single screen use, as well as still images for print and social media applications. In addition to your ability to tell a story through videos and photos, you have complimentary graphic design skills and experience writing scripts and social content.
You have exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to cultivate strong relationships and partnerships with various stakeholders including colleagues, management and partner groups. You collaborate with colleagues through the storyboarding, editing and production processes. You show a passion for quality, have an eye for the unique and you push the envelope in professional and appropriate ways.
The incumbent will:
develop, plan and implement video and photoshoots, including development of creative briefs, confirmation of project requirements, coordination of logistics, alignment with SAIT brand standards and tone, and delivery of final digital assets
help determine the appropriate channel and multimedia content that best supports campaign objectives – including, but not limited to video, podcasting, photography, animation, presentations, etc.
bring an understanding of brand and storytelling to video and photo work, including scene composition, movement and lighting
support the department’s creative services team with basic graphic design skills and writing content for video, events and web
support SAIT’s strategic plan, brand guidelines and key messages
establish and maintain a high technical and production standard
independently direct, shoot and edit video projects, including taking photos on location and in an office studio
transport, set up, operate and maintain all video and still camera equipment
build work-back schedules and manage video and photo workload to ensure final materials are delivered on time
use a variety of production equipment and software to create products ranging from simple to complex, for distribution over multiple channels
complete all post-production tasks related to broadcast quality video, and print and web-ready photography including video graphics, titles and animations, colour correcting, ambient and subject audio recording, and preparing files for upload and distribution
build and maintain the digital asset library and database of video, b-roll footage and photos
maintain equipment such as cameras and production equipment.
ensure consent and permissions are obtained as required
collaborate with colleagues across the team, within Marketing and multiple client groups to use the most appropriate multimedia to meet objectives, ensuring project planning includes stakeholder input and considerations
collaborate with Multimedia Specialists within the Marketing department to align processes, maximize content curation and use, and share equipment and workload when needed and possible
support and help lead a creative-centered approach in all aspects of the work we do, with a focus on storytelling that enhances the reputation of SAIT.
The incumbent will possess:
a degree or diploma in video production, multimedia production or related field
five years related work experience in video/multimedia production including content development, editing and proofing, project coordination and managing approval processes
extensive knowledge and experience in video/photography pre- and post-production and incorporating b-roll and sound effects
demonstrated experience in video for social media purposes
demonstrated experience working with non-professional actors and senior executives
experience in podcasting and other audio-only-based media
strong written and verbal communications skills, including editing and proofing experience, writing and graphic design to complement the visual work
project management and client services skills and the ability to manage multiple client projects, while delivering on deadlines
a collaborative, team-member approach to projects
an organized and detail-oriented approach with the ability to maintain quality control and consistency in the look and feel of SAIT’s institutional brand and style
expertise in multimedia equipment for production and editing, including the Adobe Creative Suite
experience maintaining and managing equipment
working-level skills with the Microsoft Office Suite.
