Raymond James Ltd. is seeking a Systems Administrator to work in our Vancouver and Burnaby offices.

Under the direction of the Manager, Technology Infrastructure, the Systems Administrator’s role is to manage and tune in-house systems and infrastructure to ensure a high level of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual will participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. This role will require after hours work and/or later shifts.

Specifically you will:

  • Design, implement and manage overall administration of Data Centers;
  • Manage Microsoft operating systems, Microsoft server technologies, VMware infrastructure, end-user software, and applying industry best practices;
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple MSSQL databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance;
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases according to SDLC methodologies;
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop implementation plans for new systems and applications, define custom scripts, and test procedures to ensure their operational reliability, and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize impacts on the customer organizations;
  • Analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance;
  • Lead problem-solving efforts that often involve internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and provides troubleshooting support, as required;
  • Provide third level technical support, for systems related issues in collaboration with other IT professionals and users;
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores using Veritas Backup Exec, Veeam; develop and implement procedures, programs and documentation for (a) backup and restoration of host operating systems, (b) host-based applications, (c) backup tape retention and (d) off-site storage;
  • Provide on-the-job guidance and technical advice to lower level system administrators in resolving day-to-day operational issues and complex system issues;
  • Create required reports in response to business user needs;
  • Establish and maintain documentation and standards;
  • Understand and maintain service management strategies that align with the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework;
  • Coordinate with project teams to provide technical guidance to project managers, system designers while working on assigned projects. Assist in developing project plans and implementations; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

  • Post-secondary education in information systems or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience. Certifications in MCSE/MCSA, VCP or VCA a plus;
  • At least 10 years of experience in a senior technical position responsible for managing server environments;
  • Strong experience with Cloud technologies and solutions ( Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Intune, Office 365);
  • Knowledge of Windows Server platform(s) required, as well as strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL relational database(s);
  • Advanced Active Directory and Group Policy administration, in multi domains environment;
  • Extensive Microsoft Windows Server experience including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, IIS, SCCM, MS Exchange, MS Lync 2013, Citrix;
  • Familiar with Cisco networking equipment and network skills including VLAN, layer 2&3 routing architecture and firewalls;
  • Strong knowledge of virtualized environments: VMware vSphere;
  • Experience with data management;
  • Administration of Enterprise Level SAN;
  • Scripting in PowerShell, Bash;
  • Hardware platform: HP, MobileIron, Proofpoint, F5, NetScaler;
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws;
  • Ability to conduct research into hardware and software issues and products as required;
  • Ability to present ideas and solutions in user-friendly language;
  • Highly self-motivated and directed;
  • Keen attention to detail;
  • Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information; and
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
