The Provincial Program Manager – Physician Compensation will function as a physician compensation subject matter expert within AHS and take a lead on key physician compensation programs and projects. The role will provide coaching, mentorship and leadership to the Provincial Medical Affairs Physician Compensation team and function as a “working manager.” The role is “hands on” and requires an individual who can function at both the strategic level with the Executive Director on transformation projects and also apply their technical expertise to oversee, participate in, and implement key compensation programs. The role will advise, consult and support senior Medical Leaders, Zone Medical Affairs Directors, and associated teams on physician compensation matters. The Provincial Program Manager will collaborate with HR compensation and job evaluation teams to align compensation philosophy, principles and details as appropriate. The Provincial Program Manager will also support Health Professions Strategy and Practice in identifying interprofessional practice and scope of practice barriers caused by physician compensation models and will collaborate to find solutions to advance sustainable and effective care for patients. All Non-Union Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. Design and Lead Compensation Projects (30%): Apply project management expertise to lead, manage and complete various provincial physician compensation projects. Apply change management expertise to effectively implement and rollout projects and programs. Apply compensation expertise to lead, manage and participate in provincial physician compensation projects and to support zone-specific physician compensation projects. Support Physician Compensation Analysis and Management (30%): Advise, consult, coach & partner with Zone MedAffairs teams and other AHS partners (most commonly HR and HPSP) to apply physician compensation expertise to support local needs. Routinely compare internal and external physician compensation opportunities and practices. Identify and facilitate prioritization of opportunities to reduce undesired variability, and justify local customization using a principle-based approach. Increase alignment between physician compensation and patient/system outcomes. Physician Billing Office Oversight (20%): Collaborate with Chief Medical Information Office, Finance & IT to configure, implement and maintain professional billing elements of Connect Care and associated business structures, processes & policies to operate in an AHS Professional Billing Office for in-scope physicians. Lead, coach, motivate & mentor the Professional Billing Office team as an efficient and effective patient and physician focused service. Leadership (20%): Lead, coach, motivate & mentor the Provincial Medical Affairs physician compensation team. Lead day-to-day physician compensation matters. Seek out opportunities to integrate where possible and otherwise collaborate with HR colleagues to align AHS compensation philosophy and practices. Develop strong relationships with team, clients and key partners within AHS and external to it.

Bachelor Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Health Administration or a related field. Equivalency of education and experience may be considered.

Project & Management Skills: Demonstrated project management and change management expertise, experience with developing processes, policies and guidelines, ideally specific to compensation, experience developing briefing notes, & proactive with an ability to manage multiple priorities & competing demands. Problem Solving & Project Management: Excellent consulting, advisory, problem solving and analytical skills, ability to analyze situations & develop plans based on explicit principles, ability to balance principle-based plans with situational realities through appropriate use of flexibility & creativity, and ability to use good judgement and discretion with highly confidential and sensitive information. Data and Technical Skills: Solid understanding of data and relational database design (not necessarily the technical skill to create or modify relational databases). Understanding of accounting best practices and audit controls. Ideally, advanced Microsoft Office Skills, in particular Microsoft Excel.
Masters degree preferred. Desired Compensation Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience with physician compensation systems, ideally a combination of Fee For Service and alternative payment models.
