Term: Permanent Part-Time (3 days a week with the following options: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, Wednesday/Thursday/Friday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday)

Responsibilities:
Municipal (Wednesday)

Support the day-to-day requirements of a busy Partner and Associate with their Municipal and Land Use Planning practices
Responsible for daily correspondence, document preparation and creation of tribunal and court documentation
Responsible for assembling and filing of hearing documents including but not limited to affidavits, motion records, mediation briefs, document books and books of authorities
Handle administrative details with respect to accounting, docketing, billing distribution and expenses
Monitor and maintain tickler systems, schedules and calendars
Open and close files as required
Manage a high volume of paper and filing
Liaise with legal assistants, other lawyers and clients on file progress
Learn a variety of municipal policies and procedures with some interpretation required, including but not limited to the City of Toronto’s Lobbyist Registry

Floating (the other two days)

Manage/assist with the daily operation of a variety of legal practices
Prepare and complete all necessary correspondence and documentation
Communicate professionally with all internal and external clients
Handle administrative details with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, billing, etc.
Able and willing to work in a variety of different practice areas

Qualifications or Skills Required:
Five years’ previous experience as a legal assistant, preferably in Litigation or Administrative Law
Knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
Experience working with the Rules of Practice and Procedure of the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal is considered an asset
Successful completion of Post Secondary Education, preferably Legal Assistant and/or Law Clerk Program
Strong technical skills using MS Office
Very organized, strong work ethic and communication skills
Ability to prioritize tasks, take initiative and work independently
Client service oriented
Work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Detail oriented with strong proofreading skills
