A complex continuing care hospital on Maplewood Avenue in downtown Hamilton, St. Peter's Hospital provides inpatient, outpatient, community-based programs and services that focus on Dementia, Aging, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation. Position Summary

The Telecomm Info Desk Clerk - provides pleasant, courteous and informative communication services to the general public, patients and staff as well as staffing coverage on the computerized Staff Scheduling system for Nursing Programs, Support Operations and Nutrition and Food Services when the Staffing office is closed. The Clerk provides switchboard, reception and paging services for the entire Hospital. The Clerk assists in the control of entry to the Hospital within established policies, prepares daily outgoing mail, controls taxi-cab charge slips and issues in accordance with Hospital procedures and updates telephone listings. Schedules staff using ESP Software (Environment for Scheduling Personnel) while ensuring rules of Union Collective Agreements and General Policy Manual are being followed. Also maintains knowledge of CUPE and ONA collective agreements as they relate to scheduling and payroll. The Clerk will have current knowledge of all emergency procedures and the role the Switchboard/Receptionist has in these procedures along with risk management responsibilities including abiding by the safety rules and regulations, reporting hazards, incidents and injuries to his/her supervisor and participating in all required safety training including W.H.M.I.S. Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager of Payroll & Staff Scheduling.

1. Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent
2. Two years experience in the operation of a switchboard with similar equipment and size
3. One year experience providing staffing to an organization with a minimum of 400 staff, preferably in a computerized environment
4. Demonstrated ability to analyze staffing information and make appropriate decisions based on the collective agreements
5. Demonstrated excellent communication and receptionist skills
6. Demonstrated ability to deal with the public and co-workers with tact while maintaining a pleasant attitude
7. Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations i.e. fire alarms, emergency codes and staffing shortages
8. Demonstrated ability to actively listen to Hospital callers and visitors and to be tactful and courteous when dealing with complaints
