Under general supervision, operate and maintain assigned equipment in recycling operations.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Operate heavy equipment (primarily rubber tire loaders, skid steers, and roll-off trucks; along with compost grinder, compost turner, compost screener, bailer, conveyors, water truck, and fork lift).
Coordinate activities related to hazardous waste collection, segregation, consolidation, and storage.
Maintain daily operation equipment log detailing condition of equipment, perform minor servicing, as well as report maintenance and operational problems to foreman.
Perform cleaning and maintenance of solid waste equipment and facilities as required.
Guide operators when necessary.
Perform labour tasks related to the municipal recycling program.
Assist with the coordination and operations of various recycling events.
Perform other related duties as required.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Two (2) years’ experience in the operation of rubber-tired loaders, skid steers, and roll off trucks required.
WHMIS, First Aid, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) must be obtained within three (3) months of date of hire.
Recycling, composting, and landfill certifications are assets.
Experience with recycling operations equipment such as compost grinder, compost turner, compost screener, bailer, conveyors, water truck, forklift, etc. is an asset.
You will possess the following:
Valid Class One (1) Alberta driver’s licence required (clear driving record an asset).
Working knowledge of proper safety procedures.
Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the job on an ongoing basis, in all weather conditions.
Immunizations are strongly recommended as the incumbent may be exposed to unsanitary conditions.
Must be willing to acquire environmental certifications as needed.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards, waste symbols and safety precautions applicable to the work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
