Empower Me is Canada’s only multi-award-winning energy conservation and education change program designed for and delivered by members of diverse, multilingual, and hard to reach communities. Partnering with utilities, municipalities, and the private sector – in both BC and Alberta – Empower Me focuses on newcomers and Indigenous people by delivering free programming and education in a culturally appropriate way to bridge the gap of other programs, and to ensure participants understand their energy bills and choices so they can save energy, save money, save the environment, and increase the comfort and safety of their homes.


We are looking for a dynamic self-starter who can help us ‘get sh*t done’. The Manager, Business Development will be working with our Empower Me division by managing and developing the corporate and government sponsor partnerships of the Empower Me program. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, a keen strategic business sense, and has excellent people management skills.


Generate and develop new sponsorship opportunities with governments, municipalities, and corporate partners in BC and AB.
Manage and build relationships with existing partners to help drive, repeat, and expand sponsorships in the program.
Deliver presentations regarding the program to sponsors, clients, and partners, including presenting at conferences and events.
Work with the VP, Business Development to develop the annual sales strategy and ensure targets are met as per the business plan and budget, including expansion geographically within Western Canada.
Work with the VP, Business Development to design, develop, and manage the program budget.
Report the successes and results of ongoing events and campaigns to sponsors.
Work with Program Management team to ensure sponsor objectives are met and successfully communicated.
Effectively and passionately communicate the impacts and benefits of the program in communities to governments and corporations.
Mentor your team members and grow their talents through 1:1 meetings and create a collaborative team environment across BC and AB.
With the support of marketing, develop and structure communications for existing and potential partners.

A Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience in a similar role working with public and private stakeholders including 3+ years leading a team.
Must be a clear and compelling oral and written communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders.
Obsessed with winning new business, driving sales, and exceeding targets.
Proven track record of creating and converting leads into opportunities.
Client-focused mentality with the ability to adapt to client needs and look for strategic sales opportunities.
Discipline to develop new markets and manage a lengthy sales cycle.
Demonstrated experience writing proposals, developing and executing strategic business plans, and creating public relations strategies.
Excellent follow up, time management, analytical, and organizational skills.
Strong business acumen including financial and marketing knowledge.
Demonstrated leadership skills in managing and developing a team.
Understanding of utilities, energy, and demand side management industry an asset, but not required.
Experience with fundraising and sponsorship an asset.
Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse and multi-barriered communities and organizations.
Willingness and ability to travel within BC and Western Canada 3-6 days a month.
