Location: St. Anthony

The primary purpose of this position is to work as an active member of the health care team providing pre-hospital assessment and medical care to people with acute illnesses or injuries while maintaining a high standard of care to the patients. The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) is responsible for maintaining professional and organizational standards of practice as well as working as a team member in accordance with the LGH Model of Nursing Clinical Practice. The PCP ensures a safe environment for patients and staff and reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

" Graduation from High School;
" Certified Primary Care Paramedic;
" Current active registration with the Emergency Services Division, Provincial Medical Oversight;
" Current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR);
" Copy of current Advanced Procedures Certificates (IV Therapy, Semi-Automatic Defibrillation, Symptom Relief, etc);
" Current Radio-telephone Operators Restricted Certificate (Land);
" Successful completion of ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) & NRP or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by the employer);
" Successful completion of the Medevac course or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
" Knowledge of computer skills and an ability to work with Meditech is an asset;
" Valid Class 04 driver's license and must have own vehicle;
" The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities: (Include but not limited to):
" Respond to Ambulance calls and provide professional paramedic care to clients onsite, during and after Medical Emergencies;
" Prepares patient and monitors patient's condition during transport;
" Communicates with the hospital emergency department advising of the nature of illness and injury;
" Completes patient/ambulance documentation including monthly reports;
" Assists with transport arrangements
" Responsible for the Ambulance equipment;
" Respond to all emergency calls;
" Communicates with the hospital emergency department advising of the nature of illness and injury;
" Completes patient documentation during transport;
" Assists with the activities of the nursing department as required including patient registration, portering, triage, and any and all care listed within the Private Medical Oversight - Basic Life Support - Patient Care Protocols of LGH;
" Assumes patient care management during inter-facility transports of patients;
" Provides medical interventions including performing initial and on-going patient assessment during air transport;
" Does regular scheduled stand-by as required;
" Performs security duties including the enforcement of LGH policies and procedures to maintain an effective security and safety system for both clients and staff;
" Other duties as required.

" CG-29 of the NAPE HS salary scale, $24.52 to $27.23 per hour.
