You have driven Highway 97 from Kelowna to Kamloops, The Coquihalla, perhaps even survived a rush hour or two in Vancouver and are looking to use your driving skills for the forces of good! As the Captain, or driver, with the YMCA of Okanagan you will be responsible for driving groups of up to 13 children to and from the Kelowna Family YMCA on weekday mornings and afternoons using our passenger vans. Your driving will ensure children in the community are able to access amazing programs that encourage their own learning and development!
Drivers are required to possess a valid Class 4 driver's license, or willingness to obtain. Drivers who obtain their license for the role will be compensated by the organization.
Child Care locations through Kelowna and West Kelowna
Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinate pickup and drop off times with Program Leaders
Plan and adjust routes according to daily traffic
Complete and record regular pre-trip inspections of the YMCA vehicle
Report any maintenance needed to Out of School Care Leaders or Child Care Managers
Actively participate in and promote philanthropy through the YMCA Association initiatives, including the Strong Kids Campaign and other events e.g. Healthy Kids Day
Class 4 license or willingness to obtain
Clean driving record
Upon request provide 3 references that are professional in nature e.g. Employer, Supervisor or Colleague.
A satisfactory Criminal Record Check. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than [six 6 months] preceding your start date. The YMCA will provide applicable instructions and paperwork.
Expected Time Commitment:
An average Volunteer shift will be 2-3 hours
Weekday mornings and/or afternoons
Working one on one with Volunteer Coordinator to make sure there is an understanding of programs
A commitment to the mission, vision and values of the organization: Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, strategic outcomes and values of the Y.
Service Orientation: Deliberately identifies and creates opportunities to enhance each and every individual's YMCA experience
