This is a permanent, full-time position working seventy (70) hours bi-weekly within the Accounting Services Branch of the Financial Services Department. This position is within the CUPE 1505 Bargaining Unit. This position is located in the community of Fort McMurray, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s urban centre.
Under general supervision, ensures that account payable liabilities are reviewed for accuracy and promptly processed to ensure that payment of general commitments are made with the agreed terms.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Processing all vendor invoices on a timely basis into the Municipality’s accounting system and reconciling all vendor statements.
Confirm that the correct documentation is received and uploaded correctly into the financial accounting system and follow up with the Supply Chain Management team as required.
Review Labour, Equipment, Material (LEM) invoices for mathematical accuracy, valid coding, and approval.
Confirm the accuracy of capital invoices in relation to purchase orders.
Responsible for the processing of all employee expense claims in conjunction with the administrative procedure.
Maintain Excel spreadsheets for various accounts payable reports.
Respond to internal and external accounts payable enquiries, including assisting co-workers with the interpretation of policies and procedures ensuring compliance.
Perform other related duties as required.
Completion of a one (1) year Certificate in Business Administration or equivalent accounting coursework.
Minimum of three (3) years’ directly related Accounts Payable experience.
Specialization in Accounting, completion of the first level of a professional accounting designation program, and experience with ERP information systems are assets.

Ability to accurately and expeditiously enter data, proofread, and identify data processing errors efficiently.
Ability to work with minimum supervision using initiative and judgment in dealing with deadlines, workload and uncertain situations.
Ability to effectively communicate clearly, timely, and accurately.
Ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
Ability to organize own workload, adapt quickly to change, and deliver under pressure of deadlines.
Proficiency with computer-based accounting systems is required.
$40.04 (Start Rate)
$46.89 (Permanent Rate)
- Permanent rate effective after twelve (12) months of employment.
