The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. The Unit Manager (UM) will report to and assist the Patient Care Manager in ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care on the nursing unit. Description:
The Unit Manager (UM) will report to and assist the Patient Care Manager in ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care on the nursing unit.

Required Qualifications:
Graduate of a recognized nursing education program. A Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current CARNA registration. BCLS – HCP certification is required. Three to five years, recent and relevant Emergency / Acute Care nursing is required at a minimum. A minimum of 1-2 years supervisory experience is required. A combination of experience and education may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:
A positive and enthusiastic attitude is required, as is a willingness to actively tackle new challenges and be able to effectively communicate in a professional, caring and compassionate manner. Must have a proven record of demonstrating skills in leading teams, developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships and team building, as well as organizational, analytical judgment, change management and decision making skills. Effective oral and written communication; Demonstrated clinical experience is required to make quick decisions in a very busy care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with family centered care and a collaborative practical approach is preferred. Management experience preferred. Exposure to community care options and discharge planning an asset.
