Key Role
The Graphic Designer is responsible for the creative direction of GS1 Canada projects; creating visually appealing presentations by designing art and copy layouts for a variety of mediums such as print, web, social, and digital in support of the organization’s communication and marketing strategies and plans.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Leads the development and implementation of innovative concepts and themes for GS1 Canada’s overall visual identity;
Creates/updates visual aspects of a wide variety of marketing products including collateral, advertisements, documentation, webpages, email pieces, promotional banners, interface elements and other marketing assets;
Sources photos and images for projects;
Comfortable working, and communicating directly, with executives at all levels;
Ability to articulate creative ideas and direction;
Manages all creative projects, with responsibility for proposing concepts, designing products, and collaborating with business owners to modify and bring to completion;
Manages production process with 3rd party vendors including preparation of print-ready files, approval and delivery;
Keeper of the corporate brand guidelines ensuring all creative concepts are on brand at all times;
Takes initiative to identify design opportunities;
Commitment to skill development, staying abreast of best practices and continually experimenting with new ideas.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Strong design portfolio with 2+ years post-secondary education in a Graphic Design or Web Media program, 4+ years print and 5+ years web design and interactive work experience;
Solid skills in typography, design, colour, motion, interaction and production skills;
Experience building a visual brand;
Understanding of/experience in online user experience is an asset;
Extensive knowledge of creative suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and MS Office;
Knowledge of XHTML, HTML 5, Javascript, Flash, and CSS, WordPress, Dreamweaver an asset;
Knowledge in optimizing images for web (optimal file sizes, file formats, etc.);
Team player who enjoys and is able to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment, with a demonstrated ability to think quickly and creatively;
