Your Opportunity:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse in General Surgery you will report to the Unit 23 Manager, and will have a strong clinical background in surgical patients requiring an exceptional variety of services, including vascular, extensive bowel, bariatric, plastic, hepatobiliary, and other general surgical cases. You will work collaboratively and effectively within an interprofessional team environment to support patients and their families through the various stages of care planning. You will demonstrate an ability to be committed to the highest standards of quality and excellence in patient care. You will possess good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Within the unit, you will participate in quality improvement activities and contribute continuous improvement strategies to ensure patients will receive safe and quality care, while also demonstrating the ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problem situations initiating effective solutions. You will demonstrate competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. You will take responsibility for maintaining competence through professional development activities. Red Deer is Alberta’s third largest city with a population of 100,418 and is located along the QEII Highway between Calgary and Edmonton. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of two years’ General Surgery experience within the last three years.
