Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants assist veterinarians with every aspect of animal care, as well as manage pet owners’ questions and concerns.
Caretaking of animals including feeding, walking, providing food, water, clean bedding and litter pans, as necessary.
Clean and disinfect animal cages.
Properly restrain patients for blood/urine collection and tissue sampling for testing.
Maintain accurate records by entering patient data into AlisVet records.
Maintain surgical equipment, sterilize surgical instruments, and assist the veterinarian and licensed veterinary technician as needed in surgery (such as patient preparation and monitoring)
Administer medications to patient under the supervision of the doctor or technician.
Assist in taking x-rays.
Perform laboratory tests such as urinalysis, operation of automated blood machines, fecal exams, and “SNAP” tests (heartworm, feline leukemia/FIV, etc);.
Provide client education about various diseases, medications and their proper administration, and general pet care.
Answer questions from clients in person or over the phone.
Clean treatment, surgery and reception areas as well as exam rooms regularly.
Do laundry regularly.
Answer questions regarding the use and benefits of products offered.
Receive all incoming phone calls promptly and politely. Respond to routine medical care questions, such as vaccination protocols, de-worming, flea and tick treatment, etc.
Screen calls and direct to the appropriate doctor or staff member, if requried.
Schedule appointments, based on priority.
Call clients to follow up on surgeries, injuries or illnesses. Record data in AlisVet and/or report to doctor, as required
Call clients with reminders to schedule appointments for vaccinations or annual exams.
Ensure exam rooms are fully stocked.
Assist receptionist with front counter, phone and financial duties, as required.
Assist emotional and/or grieving clients without undue stress.
