About the Role:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller provides direction and management for all financial aspects of company strategy and is expected to analyze figures and implement recommendations based on these findings, with the most profitable outcomes. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing budget management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, construction accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting. Responsibilities include:

Lead, develop and coach a tight-knit construction accounting, equipment accounting, and payroll team to maximize individual and team performance
Provide support, training, and guidance to accounting team on compliance and procedures for staffing and payroll companies
Review and approve payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, work in progress and all statutory and regulatory filings
Generate job costing analysis, financial analysis and financial statement documentation to ensure transparency for various key stakeholders
Review GST, PST, Payroll and other required tax compliance filings and remittances
Identify and create informative metrics, reports and analytics that drive business decisions and outcomes
Ensure all accounting and financial data and records are up to date and backed up/organized
Other duties as required

What you Bring:
You are an analytical person by nature who has a passion for real estate and construction. You enjoy leadership and training, and have the ability to provide clear instructions to a group of growing construction accountants. You are process-driven, methodical, and planner by nature. You have a strong accounting and reporting background from a public practice firm and can act as an advisor to senior leadership and business managers.

Our Must Haves

At least ten years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
Minimum Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field
Must be a designated CPA professional
Experience from a public practice accounting firm is an asset
Experience with ERP software implementation will be considered an asset
Experience in Sage 300 is an asset, but not required
Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Proven ability to work independently and take initiative
Demonstrated success in leadership, mentorship, and training
Ability to exceed internal/external customer expectations through verbal and written service-oriented communication skills
