Overall Responsibilities:

The Working Foreman/Woman/Carpenter, Renovation Division, is responsible for the on-site management and organization of renovations projects, leadership of, and working alongside, crew members and sub-trades, written and verbal communication with clients, project scheduling and quality control.

The Foreman/Woman/Carpenter is expected to:

· Direct and lead, and work alongside, Team Members (Lead Carpenters and Carpenters) in the construction of the project as well as using best practices in building procedures

· Stay up-to-date and informed on all building code and standard requirements, including green materials and building techniques

· Follow and support the directives of the Project Managers & Coordinators

· Work autonomously and/or lead a team of 2-3 Lead Carpenters/Carpenters, and other staff members as required

· Work accurately from building plans, and communicate any discrepancies to the Project Manager

· Arranging of all material orders & deliveries (in coordination with the Project Manager)

· Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with the Project Managers, client/sub-trades, as well as the on-site team using email and (when required) other applications

· Ensure Team understands and follows all of Jackman Ltd.’s policies and procedures including (but not limited to) the Health & Safety Program, Violence and Harassment Policy, and Working at Heights program

· Review and submit team timesheets and complete personal timesheets when they are due and in an accurate manner, and ensure that all paperwork from the site is delivered in paper copy to the Jackman Ltd Office

· Participate in the performance review process

· Direct concerns from the client, sub-trades or Team to the Project Manager

· Report to the Project Manager any on-site incidents involving safety or harassment, injury, or other notable event

Required Skills /Experience:

· Extensive and proven hands-on and project oversight experience with a wide-range of small residential renovation and build projects, which MUST include a) kitchen and bathroom remodels, b) condo renovations, c) complete basement projects with underpinning, d) full-floor and full-house gut renovations, e) house extensions and top-up additions, and f) new home builds

· Knowledgeable and experienced in the renovation and retrofit of older-stock Waterloo Region and area homes

· Thorough knowledge of the current Ontario Building Code

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Fluency in reading, interpreting, and using blueprints

· Proficiency in the use of EXCEL, WORD, and email applications

· Experience in leading and overseeing both in-house carpentry teams/employees and various sub-trades in the low-rise residential sector, from project start to completion

· Thorough knowledge of residential low-rise construction best practices

· Possess deep understanding of typical residential renovation project timing and site logistics, from project start-up to completion

Other Requirements:

· Candidates must have a minimum of 5+ years of experience in the construction and renovations industry with a broad general experience in all facets of the building process

· Access to personal vehicle is required

· The candidate must have current WHMIS certification, Emergency First Aid and working at heights training (or be willing to acquire this). Other licensure and/or certification such as a Carpentry License or Red Seal is preferred, but not expressly required

· As a field leader, the successful candidate must be personable, well-presented, and capable of leading his/her team by example

Highly Desirable:

· Experience in working within a small, rapidly growing company

· Knowledge of and experience using cloud-based construction project management software

· University or Post-secondary degree

Terms of Employment:

· Start date is negotiable for the right candidate, however position is available immediately

· 3-month probation followed by a performance review

· Wage rate commensurate with experience
