Maintenance Technician

Location: North York, Ontario

Status: Full time-Contract Rotating 12-hour Continental Shift

The Role and Candidate: The Maintenance Technician is an integral team member of our fluid milk processing food operation, who literally helps to keep our 24/7 plant running by applying your preventative maintenance and troubleshooting expertise to maintain our processing equipment. You report to the Maintenance Supervisor and also collaborate with your Maintenance, Operations, Quality Control and Supply Chain colleagues, to determine the root cause when challenges occur.You have a safety-first mentality, pride yourself on maintaining a clean work environment, enjoy the challenge of hands on troubleshooting, and see the value in connecting with Operators and other colleagues on the production floor as a source of information to learn their perspective regarding how the machines they operate for 12 hours are running. You also have an interest in working for a Canadian-owned and operated business with a rich 62-year history of growth and success.

Qualifications & Competencies: * The ideal candidate must have a trade license, such as an Industrial Electrician License and/or Millwright License

  • 3 years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry
  • Must display excellent sanitary habits and possess knowledge of HACCP
  • Strong preventative maintenance and troubleshooting ability
  • Solid knowledge of high-speed filling and packaging lines
  • Strong knowledge of PLC fault diagnostics, Motor and Motion control
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) an asset
  • Familiar with continuous improvement processes and methodologies considered an asset
  • Valid Operating Engineer certificate would be a great asset
  • Strong working knowledge of basic welding, machining and plumbing
  • Good communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be flexible in terms of shift work and perform other duties as required
  • Computer skills would be an asset
  • Physically capable of performing the demands of the job

Physical Demands:

  • Physically able to stand and walk for a considerable amount of time
  • Ability to climb stairs regularly
  • Crouching and working in awkward positions for moderate lengths of time

Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintain all mechanical and electrical systems, and all machinery in the plant
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance and outside contractors to ensure work is completed in a safe manner and complies with all necessary manufacturing codes, regulations and standards
  • Communicate daily Maintenance Activities with Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance team and update all daily logs
  • Improve and maintain existing PM systems
  • Ensure that required parts are ordered
  • Identify opportunities and make recommendations to continuously improve maintenance operations and efficiencies
  • Food Safety and Quality responsibility as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as well as other training materials provided and accurate record keeping
  • Attend prescribed courses and training as required
  • Other projects as assigned by Plant Management

Working Environment:

  • Frequent exposure to humid/dry temperatures, multiple deadlines and interruptions.
  • Regular exposure to dust, extreme temperature inadequate lighting, ventilation, noise and odour.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous machines, chemical substances and working from heights
