Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking Plant Operators to join their highly skilled team to work a Fly In / Fly Out rotation to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville QC. Main pick-up points are Montreal, QC, St. John’s, NL, and Halifax, NS.
Reporting to the Plant Supervisor, the incumbent operates in the different areas of all our processing facilities. He also conducts minor maintenance works as required to keep the plants running smoothly, efficiently and safely.
To be successfully in this position, the incumbent must be thoroughly familiar with operating procedures in all processing areas.
Works in any area of the plant performing any task for which he is qualified (including general plant cleaning), as determined by shift supervisors.
Monitors, maintains and controls all aspects of the processing equipment and materials associated with the plants. Should know the function and operation of all equipment in the plants.
Ensures targeted production tonnage and quality are met in a safe and conscientious manner.
Conducts pre-start and running checks of all equipment as required. Job clearance to be accepted after inspection, following repairs.
Gives written and verbal reports concerning plant condition, as requested. Pass on information in such a way that they could be easily understood.
Responds quickly to change in conditions. Reports new conditions always working effectively and safely.
Carries out light maintenance works in the plant such as belt tracking, opening of manholes for inspection, tightening loose bolts, etc., as requested by shift supervisors.
Qualifications & Requirements
Grade 12 diploma, a Process Technicians diploma an asset;
5+ years of operational experience; -
2+ years of experience in mining or high industrial setting;
Ability to learn and gain a full understanding of plant flow sheets;
Ability to effectively communicate;
Able to work on site Fly-in/Fly-out schedule.
