Under the direction of the Mohawk Family Services Program Manager, the Child and Youth Worker will be responsible for assisting in the provision of services to families with children and youth ages 0-18 in the community of Tyendinaga. The key focus of this position will be providing assistance to families who have a demonstrated need that may affect their ability to effectively parent and maintain their relationship with their children or youth, which could affect the safety of the children in the family home, or their ability to return to the family home. They will work collaboratively with members of the team, community and other programs to ensure all clients receive support in a nurturing, supportive and non-judgmental fashion. The Child and Youth Worker will ensure the current developmental needs of children in his/her care are met by actively participating in the case planning, which includes assessment and treatment of issues that affect the family functioning. This worker should possess the physical ability to provide in-home services and be able to lift up to 40 pounds. This worker will provide case updates to other shared workers, and keep clear case notes in an organized file management system. The Child and Youth Worker will carry a case load of 15 -20 families who require their support and is expected to work with the families in their homes. There will be a need for time flexibility, and travel, as appointments may be out of the area or be during the early morning, evenings or weekends. The Child and Youth Worker will not be responsible for after-hours coverage for Mohawk Family Services.
