Team & Job Overview

The Export Development Canada (EDC) Special Risks Team is responsible for managing all recovery efforts on impaired loans and guarantees in EDC's Corporate and Canada Account lending portfolios. The team’s responsibilities include the management of out-of-court workouts, bankruptcies, restructurings, and asset liquidations. The team is regularly consulted by EDC’s various financing teams.

Reporting to the Director of Special Risks, he/she will primarily be focused on the management of distressed loans in the Corporate and Canada Accounts which have been originated across all of EDC’s lending teams. We are looking for a motivated and seasoned professional who will also provide support on a consultative basis to EDC’s lending teams.

Discipline Summary

Manages a portfolio of distressed debt.

Restructures loans, negotiates changes to lending terms and conditions, develops documentation, and manages loans through insolvency proceedings, as required, in collaboration with legal counsel.

Makes credit recommendations and obtains all required approvals.

Key Responsibilities

Thoroughly understand all aspects of EDC’s lending programs, including EDC’s market position, risk appetite and related loan documentation.

Working independently, leads all aspects of restructuring and transaction management and loss mitigation assessments and recommendations.

Responsible for communication and managing relationships with borrowers, bankers, lawyers, receivers, and trustees.

Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Explain difficult or sensitive information and works to build consensus.

Resolve issues arising with internal or external counterparties.

Complete assigned tasks/special projects as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications

Screening Criteria

Completion of an MBA, with a specialization in Finance
Minimum of three years (Senior Associate) or five years (Special Risks Manager) of experience in commercial/corporate lending, structured and project financing, or managing special risks transactions
Solid knowledge of commercial lending practices, common financing structures, and security
Strong credit analysis, risk assessment and negotiation skills
Preference will be given to internal candidates

Assets

Bilingualism (English & French)
CFA designation

Salary Range

Senior Associate: $87,300 - $131,000 + performance-based incentive
Special Risks Manager: $122,400 - $183,600 + performance-based incentive
