Purpose of the Position

The REM (Reseau Express Metropolitain - Express Metropolitan Network) project in Montreal is a 67-km long network that has been divided into three sub segments so as to allow for a better control and governance of the design and construction process.

Key Responsibilities

Ultimately responsible and accountable for the Segment Construction in terms of the safety, quality, Budget Schedule and Workforce;
Selects, manages and mentors the segment management team and work force in order to achieve the segment goals in terms of Safety, Quality, Budget and Schedule;
Ensure project safety and quality standards and environmental programs are adhered to at all times;
Maintain excellent relationships with owner and dedicated owner’s counterparts;
Oversees and manages the coordination with the different design teams so as to allow for procurement and construction as per the segment schedule and budget;
Manages and is accountable for obtaining permits with the competent authorities and different stake holders;
Responsible and accountable for guarantying the compatibility and integration of different disciplines (building, tracks, system and civil) involved in the segment in terms of Safety, Schedule and Budget;
Develops, manages, monitors and is accountable for the integrated segment schedule;
Develops, manages, monitors and is accountable for the segment budget;
Ensure optimum utilization of staff, labour, material, equipment and other resources across all segment
Makes sure that the segment team in establishing the needed construction plan, engineering methods and corresponding risk analysis;
Ensure appropriate and compliant usage of administrative procedures within the segment.
Organizes and leads the segment administration meetings; and
Participate to project wide administration meetings as needed.
Ensure Aecon and Joint Venture policies and procedures are implemented on the segment;
Be an ambassador of the company both internally and externally;
Ensure compliance with Aecon union obligations;
Participate and validates in tender closings;
Conduct Performance Evaluations of segment staff;
Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor of civil engineering
Two to three years of civil construction experience
Two to three years’ experience managing designers, administrative, multidisciplinary staff on large civil projects
Two to three years’ experience with hard and soft rock tunneling
Previous joint venture project experience
Previous experience on design build projects
Two to three years of leadership and previous supervisory experience overseeing 100 plus people
2-3 years’ experience working on complex rail projects
Previous experience working on underground stations
2-3 years’ experience as a project director
2-3 years’ experience working on major pursuits and proposals
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling and safety requirements
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to resolve project disputes with no management assistance
Ability to manages issues Owner, Authorities and stakeholders
Excellent presentation skills
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel
Working knowledge of Project Management systems, accounting systems and scheduling software
Fluency in French and English is required (oral and written)
Experience with complex private and public partnership contracts
Strong teaming and communication skills
Effective interpersonal skills

Working Conditions and Environment

Relocation within Canada may be required. Relocation costs covered by employer.
