Our company Edsembli is seeking a Director of Software Development. Edsembli reimagines how a human resources and payroll (HRP) system can strengthen board administration and improve school business processes. Edsembli HRP is an innovative cloud platform that is designed to give district office, schools, teachers and benefits providers accurate, reliable, and timely information.

Director of Software Development

Objective:
As a member of the senior management team, you provide direction, development and implementation of SaaS solutions for the education marketplace:
Execute a software plan that provides the North American K-12 digital education marketplace with an integrated cloud-based solution set complemented with a data analytics framework
Ensure the software plan provides congruency between integrated modules and the effective assessment and instruction for all K-12 students
Take ownership of the software vision, and lead on key architectural decisions
Share your passion about building and mentoring a great software/technology team, which holds high standards in software performance and customer satisfaction

Key Areas of Responsibility

Software Focus: Develop a software map in the K-12 education sector through industry digital trends, key K-12 education conferences, software advisory and advocacy groups.
Technology: Lead and participate in software design reviews and complex technical initiatives with architecture, research and development, emerging technology, internal software development, and other stakeholders, as required (e.g. refactor, redesign, or upgrade software designs to meet customer and regulatory compliance requirements).
Project Focus: Develop short-term, mid-term and long-term Most Viable Product (MVP) project plans with scope, time and resource commitments established for senior management and shareholder review.
Team Management: Ensure that the Software Development team plans/schedules activities and allocates resources in a way that ensures quality deliverables (balancing time, cost and scope constraints), minimize technical debt, and keep software base healthy and current.

Business perspective:
Provide direction and resources in building, improving, and maintaining the company’s portfolio of software
Create software that aligns with the K-12 school front-office’s requirement for student learning and achievement
Customers: Provide software strategy and outlook via key conferences, electronic and social media platforms and on key discussions with K-12 educators, administrators and functional managers.
Marketing: Contribute to the company’s marketing plan to promote the company’s digital solution approach and how the suite of software solutions impact the customers’ front and back offices.

Skills & Experience

Seven or more years in a senior software development management role, with in-depth experience building, managing, motivating, and mentoring high-performance, self-directed, cross-functional, collaborative software teams
Ten or more years of experience in software engineering/software development of commercial software and SDLC across multiple platforms
Experience with Microsoft stack: C#/.Net, MS SQL, etc.
Experience with at least one of the JavaScript based JVVM frameworks such as Angular, React, Vue, etc.
Experience leading or working with high-performing DevOps teams
In-depth experience defining release strategy, test strategy, planning and estimating
Proven experience building and executing strategy to implement new methodologies, and teams through periods of change and transformation
Knowledge and experience across all enterprise architecture domains and depth in two or more (application/integration, information/data, technical/infrastructure including security, business)

Additional experience:
Agile development concepts and methodologies
Cloud and on-premise platforms
Change management, project management experience
Software quality management or similar experience
Budgeting/forecasting (financial management)
Strategic, problem-solver, business acumen, results-oriented, attention to detail
Ability to build effective relationships and influence decisions (tech team to C-suite)
University degree or comparable education/experience (computer science, software engineering, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, client service and technical writing skills, coupled with a strong interest in aligning business strategy with technology solutions
