DESCRIPTION: This opportunity exists for a Project Manager in our accredited Ecotoxicology Laboratory. As the successful candidate, you will report directly to the President (or VP) and be responsible for, or participate in:

  • Perform all tasks in a manner that supports AquaTox’s Quality Assurance Program.
  • Perform all activities in a manner that is consistent with AquaTox’s commitment to the health, safety and wellness of all staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Conduct all activities and interactions in a respectful, positive and professional manner that is consistent with AquaTox’s policies.
  • Scheduling and coordinating testing, analyzing and interpreting test data and review of toxicity test reports
  • Providing guidance and information in response to client questions and requests
  • Reviewing chain-of-custody and sample submission forms
  • Reviewing or conducting statistical analysis and interpretation of test data
  • Maintaining and updating client files
  • Maintaining up-to-date budgets for all managed projects
  • Ensuring testing is completed on time and on budget
  • Participating in invoice review and approval
  • Participating in weekly staff meetings with the Laboratory Manager, and other professional staff
  • Preparing quotations and proposals
  • Design and conduct ecotoxicity testing studies with fish, plants and invertebrates

On an as needed basis, this role will also include working at the bench including conducting the following activities:

  • Performing technical activities related to the culturing and holding of fish, aquatic invertebrates and plants.
  • Performing technical activities related to the testing of water, effluent and wastewater samples, chemicals, sediments, and leachates/elutriates for their toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates and/or plants.
  • Perform activities related to sample receipt and log-in.
  • Performing routine analysis of water quality parameters including pH, dissolved oxygen, water hardness and conductivity.
  • Preparation of water and food for testing and culturing.
  • Perform tasks related to general housekeeping practices, shipping and receiving of lab supplies.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position will be of interest to those with a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Environmental or Aquatic Toxicology, or other closely related discipline. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of aquatic toxicology theory and practical application. Five (5) years of applied experience in a laboratory or management setting is required for this position. The successful candidate must be familiar with a variety of aquatic toxicity test methods, including Environment Canada and OECD. Knowledge and experience with GLP testing and requirements would be considered an asset. An understanding of Canadian provincial and federal regulatory requirements for aquatic toxicity testing is also required. Demonstrated technical and scientific writing is a must for this position, along with strong inter-personnel and communication skills, and decision-making abilities.
