Position Summary:

The East Vancouver Education Centre is a partnership program operated jointly by Vancouver School Board and Pacific Community Resources Society. East Van Education Centre provides education programming for Grades 8-12. The Youth and Family Worker position provides support to youth and the team, both in the classroom and in community activities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience building relationships with youth ages 13-19.

Primary Duties:

The youth worker plays an important role in supporting and developing educational and social recreational opportunities for youth including hands on, experiential activities. The position works both in the classroom and out in the community. The Youth and Family Worker is responsible for building meaningful relationships with youth to support their connection to their education program. As part of a multi-disciplinary team of teachers, youth and family workers, music therapist, and other professional, this role includes providing strong communication and connection with colleagues. Youth and family workers provide additional case management support to teaching staff through attending integrated support meetings, providing outreach with youth, when required. Work hours are primarily between 8:30-4pm, however, some evening family engagement or recreational opportunities may be required. This position is coordinated with another part time youth worker.

Academic and Job Experience Required:

  • B.A. in Child and Youth, Education, Community Support or Social Work; or 2-year diploma in child and youth care with a minimum of 2 years work experience

Basic Requirements:

  • Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
  • Standard first aid certificate and CPR
  • Experience working with marginalized youth

Desired Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working in education system and/or experiential education settings
  • Strong understanding of anti-oppression, trauma-informed, and decolonizing practices
  • Crisis Intervention and/or De-escalation training an asset
  • Training to address Depression/Suicide/Mental Health Assessment an asset
  • Experience in leading outdoor recreation with youth
  • Additional training in substance use treatment/support recovery an asset
  • Class 4 license

Salary Range: $24.01/hour – $27.33/hour, Plus benefit package (100% employer paid)
