The Senior Analyst, Business Continuity will support the Manager, Business Continuity Planning in Canada, and will be responsible for contributing to the implementation, execution and ongoing oversight of the (Lifeco) Business Continuity Management (BCM) Framework.
The role will support the establishment and ongoing operation of the second line of defence within the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) which includes Emergency Response, Incident Management, Business Recovery and Disaster Recovery planning.
The role will be accountable for ensuring that business units in Canada are adequately identifying, measuring, managing and reporting business disruption risks, and are in compliance with all global and jurisdictional standards and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Analyst, Business Continuity will work actively with the 1st line of defence risk teams and business teams across the Canadian operations to ensure continuity planning practices are operating and aligned to the Lifeco BCM Framework and provides independent assessment of the BCM risk profile.
The Senior Analyst, Business Continuity will also advise the business teams in conducting risk assessments and business impact analyses; in developing appropriate business disruption risk mitigation strategies and response plans; and in creating, implementing, exercising, and maintaining the business response plans.
Strategy and Planning
Support the establishment of a process to apply objective assessment to key aspects of the BCM Framework including the business impact analysis (BIA) process, stated recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs), as well as recovery and testing strategies.
Provide objective and independent risk expert advice and counsel to the business, partnering with Internal Audit, Legal, Compliance and Risk.
Recommend courses of action for the first line of defence to ensure ongoing improvement and evolution of business recovery strategies and capabilities.
To support and manage BCM operational plans and strategies to achieve objectives. To develop BCM operational strategies and influence strategic direction. To participate in Global BCM planning as part of the planning/leadership team.
Exercise and Testing
Support testing programs in order to provide assurance of resilience to key risks and threats
Support the objective assessment of the design of plans and the testing frameworks
To assist in protecting against the impact of business disruptions. To ensure successful delivery of critical services and processes during business disruptions.
Analysis and Reporting
Lead the analysis for Lifeco level BCM key risk indicators, and facilitate the sharing of best practices across the regions
Support the analysis for BCM scenarios, and to engage relevant businesses
Lead the analysis for regional plans and support change risk assessments
Support the production of quarterly Lifeco BCM reporting for the ORC, ERMC, Board and regulators.
To monitor the state of the BCM program in Canada and report on performance to senior leadership.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Progressive experience in a business continuity or disaster recovery function.
Experience working in a regulated environment.
Business Degree (or other relevant post graduate qualification an advantage)
Business Continuity professional accreditation / certification is an asset
Experience with ISO 22301
Excellent change management skills.
Sound judgment and strong analytical skills to identify opportunities for enterprise collaboration.
Ensure viable plans and strategies are in place to respond to business disruptions.
Conceptualization, presentation and communication skills to effectively execute change.
Demonstrate relationship building, people management and leadership skills with an exceptional ability to make things happen through influence and by nurturing key partnership relationship.
