Stantec’s Calgary office is currently seeking Junior Environmental Planner to work with our Assessment, Permitting and Compliance Team. The position will be based in Calgary and will provide support to all stages of a project’s lifecycle including permitting, approval requirements, and construction and post-construction support. Projects will include small to large-scale provincial and federal pipelines, oil and gas facilities and power-related projects. This position will be part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team that provides the full range of expertise needed to address environmental permitting and approval requirements, construction and post-construction report commitments and operational maintenance of assets for energy sector projects. Our staff members have established excellent working relationships with regulators and clients in western Canada, and our regulatory knowledge, environmental assessment experience and scientific expertise allow us to help our clients develop the most effective approach to securing regulatory approvals and achieving permitting compliance.
Your Key Responsibilities
Provide environmental planning and regulatory support on a wide variety of energy sector projects
Support project managers with project team coordination, health and safety procedures, budget and schedule updates and monthly reporting
Assist project teams in the preparation of technical documents that support regulatory application development and submission
Track daily reports, incident reporting, task status and project schedule
Attend team and client meetings, record and distribute meeting minutes
Set-up and coordinate environmental field programs
Work closely with biophysical disciplines to plan for and manage requirements for field surveys
Work in a collaborative team of technical environmental and engineering specialists to support the permitting process.
Contribute to business development activities, including preparation of proposals and pre-qualification application
Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with HSE professionals during the execution of all phases of project planning and implementation
Participate in team and independent based work
Participate in field surveys under the supervision of the crew lead, as necessary

Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences or in Environmental Studies
Direct environmental and regulatory related experience the energy sector (oil and gas, pipelines, electrical transmission, power generation) preferred
Understanding of provincial and federal regulations and permitting requirements an asset
Field experience, or interest in conducting field work, is an asset
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
