Bureau Veritas Laboratories is looking for a

LABORATORY SUPERVISOR – Product Testing Services (Organic Chemistry)

As a LABORATORY SUPERVISOR, your primary responsibilities are:

Lead and develop staff

Lead a team of Lab Technicians, Analysts, Scientists and Scientific Specialists
Ensure staff receive adequate training and are qualified to complete procedures with strict adherence to Study Plans, SOPs and WIs
Complete and maintain training and qualification records
Set objectives, evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback
Coach and mentor staff
Provide training on methods, instrumentation and software
Work with employees in the development of their career path
Maintain a positive work environment for employees
Chair team meetings
Recruit new lab staff

Technical expertise

Serve as a technical resource for lab staff, customers, client services, quality assurance and lab management
Review analytical requests for to ensure they are achievable and direct
Troubleshoot instrument and equipment issues
Write, review and approve analytical methods
Participate in internal and external laboratory audits

Laboratory operations

Schedule daily laboratory activities to ensure timely delivery of results
Monitor and maintain appropriate lab supplies
Ensure instruments are maintained, calibrated and in good working order
Ensure that employees adhere to SOPs and WIs
Ensure proper, complete and timely documentation of non-conformances, management of change, responses to audit findings and corrective actions

Health and safety

Understand and adhere to Supervisor responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Bureau Veritas policies
Provide information, instruction and assistance to staff to maintain the health and safety of employees and the environment
Conduct bi-weekly PPE audits
Participate in monthly worksite inspections of their area
Ensure hazard assessments and critical task analyses are completed
Monitor staff and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance
Conduct regular safety tailgate meetings with staff

You are the ideal LABORATORY SUPERVISOR if you have:
Post-secondary education, B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree and a minimum of 4-6 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience in operating a variety of analytical instruments including IC, HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, and LC-MSMS
Extensive experience with instrument software, such as Agilent Chemstation/Masshunter, Analyst, and/or Thermo Chromeleon
5 years of experience in specific environment of which two (2) years are at a leadership level
Analytical problem-solving skills; working on problems of a diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
Exceptional team building, training and coaching skills
Strong time-management, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
Good judgement and response to resolve employee relation issues
Ability to adapt to a changing environment and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong computer skills
Attention to detail and always follow SOPs and WI
Accurate record keeping skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
