The Taylor Institute for Teaching & Learning is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Digital Communications Specialist for approximately 2 years.
The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning is dedicated to better understanding and improving student learning, and the teaching approaches and practices that affect student learning. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Digital Communications Specialist will be a driven, analytical and creative professional who helps to achieve the institute's strategic priorities by developing compelling digital marketing and communications deliverables. This is a fast-paced position that requires the management of multiple and often competing deadlines.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Build and develop content for new webpages effectively leveraging layout, graphic assets and copy to inspire users with direct calls-to-action
Coordinate the development of multimedia content including podcasts, webinars, ebooks etc., working with subject matter experts and external vendors as needed
Help build, maintain and update an editorial calendar and ensure campaign deadlines are met by tracking content through the editorial process
Provide writing and copyediting on other communications projects on a case-by-case basis as needed (TI Community Report, program guides, creative briefs, etc.)
Develop, explain and implement the social media strategy for the institute; advise and train stakeholders within the department in social media best practices
Work with institute staff and colleagues from university relations to share TI content across institutional and faculty social media channels
Manage presence on social media sites including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
Develop and monitor effective benchmarking techniques for measuring the impact of social media campaigns; analyze, review, and report on the social media metrics in an effort to maximize results
Monitor and report on trends in social media tools and applications, including the use of influencers and user-generated content
Write and develop content delivered via social media and digital channels
Develop and execute social media and online advertising campaigns
Build emails and a monthly newsletter in Marketo, the university's preferred email and event marketing platform
Research, write and copyedit stories, articles, resources and blogs
Coach and train academic staff, subject matter experts and specialists in the Taylor Institute in producing high-quality, value-added digital content
Liaise with client-colleagues in the TI to understand their desired outcomes, goals and objectives and provide counsel on the right marketing strategies and tactics required to meet those goals
Work closely with members of the Communications and Marketing and Strategic Operations teams to develop streamlined processes to support sustained growth in TI programs and events, and across our strategic priorities
Ensure compliance with and advocate for the university brand standards and guidelines
Act as a key liaison between the TI Communications and Marketing team and the Digital Experience team in University Relations, attending professional development sessions and Web Council and Marketing Council meetings as needed
Manage complex issues and challenging interpersonal interactions with composure and diplomacy
Qualifications / Requirements:
Related undergraduate degree is required (Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English or Business Administration)
3-5 years of experience in the communications, marketing and/or public relations with significant expertise in blog, website and social media content development
Excellent knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal and Wordpress
Demonstrated expertise in managing social media campaigns across diverse platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite)
Exceptional writing, copyediting and storytelling skills with advanced knowledge of the English language and high attention to detail
An eye for design, layout and experience working with subject matter experts, translating complex concepts and jargon into accessible communications
Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is essential
Proficiency in Google Analytics and SEO
Experience using Adobe CS InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop would be an asset
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Confident and poised with strong interpersonal skills, passionate about quality and able to deliver in a high-performance environment, with multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines
An understanding of university culture and context would be beneficial
