The Intellectual Property team is highly regarded, innovative and looking to grow! We are currently seeking to add to the existing strength of our team by bringing in a Legal Assistant to our Guelph office

This position will play a key role in handling administrative items and requires a highly-organized professional individual with excellent client service skills and the ability to work in a challenging fast-paced environment.

The Role

Preparation and filing of documents for all aspects of patent prosecution for
Canadian, U.S. and foreign patent offices
Preparation and filing of office action responses
Preparation of Information Disclosure Statements for filing in the USPTO
Management of due date list, including frequent communication with professionals, clients and foreign associates to ensure that due dates are met
Maintaining a docketing system for following up on reminders and deadlines
Regular communication with CIPO
Heavy focus on client billing and management of WIP

Skills and Experience Required

College Diploma from a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk program
Basic Patent and Trade-mark experience would be an asset
Strong technical skills with working knowledge of MS Office 2010
Strong attention to detail with solid proofreading skills
Flexibility, patience and the ability to adapt to change
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in order to meet deadlines and manage a high volume desk
Strong communication and organizational skills
Proactive and ability to take initiative when appropriate
Positive outlook and the ability to work well in a team environment
Ability to work under pressure
Bilingualism would be considered an asset
