Position Summary Reporting to the Recreation Manager, and/or designate, the Recreation Therapist initiates , plans, implements and evaluates Recreation programs designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and cultural needs and interests of the resident.
Responsibilities Include but not limited to;
1. Plans recreation programs and monthly schedule of recreation events for the facility that meet required standards and P&P.
2. Develops and carries out established recreation programs including, but not limited to, outings, exercises, crafts, social events, entertainment, games, etc. and evaluates program regularly.
3. Assists residents to, during, and from programs as required.
4. Assists, encourages, and motivates residents to participate in social, spiritual, physical, mental and cultural recreational activities.
5. Observes and reports any changes in residents to RCM and/or Nurse.
6. Documents as per policy and procedure; ensuring confidentiality and security.
7. Completes MDS assessments on all residents as required.
8. Ensures residents’ rights are maintained.
9. Ensures recreational equipment and supplies are used, maintained and stored in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. Reports unsafe or faulty equipment to the appropriate manager.
10. Actively participates in Quality Improvement (QI) program, meetings, committees and educational in-services as required. Assists in the maintenance of statistical records.
11. Assists with admission/orientation of new residents and/or tenants.
12. Provides guidance, assistance and support to volunteers. Assists in the evaluation processes of Volunteers. Encourages residents as volunteers in their own community.
13. Performs other related duties to ensure quality holistic resident service.
Qualifications 1. A two year Recreation or equivalent Diploma; (Degree Preferred)
2. Member of the ATRA
3. Basic First Aid Certificate (Current).
4. Food Safe Certificate.
5. Valid Class 4 driver’s license (Current) {required only when facility has a bus}.
6. Previous experience in a Continuing Care Facility an asset, Dementia Care experience preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
2. Ability to effectively organize work in a flexible resident focused environment.
3. Must be in good health and physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand, push, pull and walk as required to perform the duties of the position.
4. Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
5. Basic computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
