Candidates must be graduated from Recreation and Leisure Studies, Recreation Therapy, Kinesiology or and appropriate related field.
Minimum two years working in recreation, minimum one year of leadership experience working with mature adults and seniors in a related setting.
Effective oral and written communication skills respectfully and compassionately work with older adults and their families.
Ability to work effectively as a team member and provide genuine care and compassion for the residents is a must.
Knowledge of RAI MDS, Pointclickcare and WHMIS will be considered an asset.
Must provide a complete and current (within the last six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a criminal background check) or be willing to obtain one.
Work with the Administrator, Director of Nursing, Food Service Supervisor, residents and recreation staff to develop engaging programs that meet the needs of the residents in all domains – Social, Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, and Cognitive.
Effectively manage Recreation Staff, Restorative Staff and volunteers within approved budgets.
Ensure policies, procedures, processes and systems are in place and being monitored.
Develop and prepare communication tools such as newsletters, posters, notices and calendars designed to provide the residents and family member’s information related to current and future activities and special events.
Maintains all required records, reports, statistics in accordance with policies and procedures and legislative requirements.
Coordinate the volunteer program for the Home, including recruiting and orienting volunteers.
Provide work direction, instruction and guidance to department staff.
Ensure department complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and any Collective Agreements.
Operate computer systems within organizational established technology standards.
Orientate new and existing staff as required.
Participate in homes committee meetings as required.
Communications within the department and with other departments to ensure the needs of the residents are met.
Order and maintain department supplies.
Work with Occupational Therapist, residents and families to provide appropriate wheelchair seating for residents as needed.
Coordinate with RAI Coordinator / Restorative Nurse Lead on Restorative Care Program within the home.
