As the Perennial Supervisor, you will assist in the growth and sales of our beautiful perennial flowers. Every season brings new projects and challenges for this dynamic role. One season you will work as a team to meet production goals, the next you will assist in leading the perennial retail department. Under the tutelage of one of our brilliant and tenured Production Managers, you will take a hands-on approach to learning and leading several diverse teams of Daymakers.
What Does Your Work Day Look Like:
- Commitment to providing great experiences and helping Heeman’s deliver on the vision of making our space a happy place for guests and fellow Daymakers
- Assist guests with helpful, informed advice and recommendations about product related inquires in a timely fashion
- Lead a team of 3-5 people during active retail season, from April to October
- Provide training and mentorship to Perennial team associates, including completing Staff Evaluations and providing plant knowledge training
- Support Perennial Manager in all facets of the department, including:
- Monitor work email, review supplier availabilities and work with Perennials Manager to place weekly orders based on needs as well as conduct annual review and pre-books for future seasons
- Take cuttings, pot bulbs & bare roots, transplant, scout, treat and water of all crops, homegrown and sourced
- Responsible for forecasting and order of plant materials and supplies necessary for the production of homegrown crops
- Setting retail pricing in accordance with Heeman’s pricing philosophy for plants in department
- Maintain a clean retail and production environment in line with Heeman’s standards for guests and team members
- Set up retail area, maintaining a fresh stock of high-quality plants that is consistent with Heeman’s retail layout standards
- Contribute to the overall success of Heeman’s; oversee/support other relevant projects and exhibiting a positive attitude and excellent work habits
What will you bring to the table?
- 2+ years of supervisory experience in the customer service industry
- Proficiency in English, basic math skills
- Hands-on leadership style and willingness to lead by example
- Open communication style and ability to delegate effectively
- Capable of following direction and working independently
- Excellent time management skills and ability to manage frequent interruptions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Adaptability to a continuously changing work environment
- Transportation plan. Heeman’s is not located on a bus route
Physical Requirements:
- Capability to perform fast-paced environment with seasonal changeovers, and physically demanding work, including prolonged standing and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work in greenhouse conditions with bending and lifting required
Greenhouse Conditions:
The working environment of the greenhouse includes:
- Direct and indirect sunlight
- High humidity, hot and cold temperatures
- Wind, rain, snow
Availability
- Availability to work during all hours of operation (which will include evening and weekends)
- Availability to work up to 6 days per work
- Flexibility to accommodate scheduling changes
- Open availability for peak season (March 20th to July 3rd)
Employment Type:
- Weekend work is expected, especially during busy season (March to early July) as well as other key weekends.
- Heeman’s is an agricultural/farming business and employees are classified as an agricultural employee under the ESA.
