The Successful Applicant:

The Position of Cook

The Cook will report to the Executive Chef / Food Services Manager and during the shifts when they are working they will be responsible for the preparation, delivery and presentation of all of the Resident’s food and beverages.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To embrace, promote and participate in our resident first culture
  • To ensure that the production of meals is completed on time
  • To ensure that meals and beverages are delivered at the proper temperature, with attention to presentation and that the quality of the meal and the entire dining experience is paid close attention to.
  • At the beginning of each shift, to review the menus and the associated production charts to ensure that everything that will be required is on hand.
  • To participate in the quality improvement plan by observing and reporting on how well menu items were received by the residents paying particular attention to reporting on the number of items that were selected and the number of returned items as well as report on the number of “off menu” items that were ordered.
  • To understand and follow the recipes when preparing the Resident’s meals including paying close attention to quality and presentation.Prior to starting a shift, to review any dietary restrictions that residents may have that are listed in the plan of care and ensure that the preparation and delivery of meals to those residents follows those instructions.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that proper food handling procedures and processes are followed including but not limited to completing the daily temperature audits for refrigeration equipment, freezers and store rooms
  • To ensure that all policies and procedures are followed with particular regard to health and safety legislation, policies and procedures as well as but not limited to infection control, cleanliness and the requirements of all governmental agencies and regulations.
  • To participate in in-service and other necessary training sessions including emergency evacuation plans and fire safety plans.To complete other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Inter - Provincial Cook's Red Seal Certification - Mandatory
  • Must have Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Must have experience with special and therapeutic dietsMust be physically able to lift and transfer heavy and hot items safely
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must use Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves and non-slip foot ware and other items as required
  • Must have a current Vulnerable Position / Sector Screening (VPS)
  • Immunization record – Tuberculosis TestScarborough
